Tammy Slaton is glad she got the weight-loss surgery that saved her life but admits she never thought it would happen.

Slaton is gaining and feeling “great” in her progress to lose weight and not be severely obese-1000-Lb. The Sisters star finally underwent bariatric surgery in 2022. She had a near-death experience, which pushed her to get serious and stay focused.
“I woke up and had my surgery,” he said PEOPLE magazine. Ahead of the operation, the 36-year-old was placed in a medically induced coma and put on a ventilator when he stopped breathing.
“I was able to make my lungs strong enough to get my truck [tracheostomy tube for breathing] out, and recently, the doctor told me not to use my oxygen machine during the day.” This is a big step for the reality star who has to be attached to a machine to live.

Slaton admits that while he still needs the machine, it cuts down on the day significantly. “Now I only wear my oxygen at night, along with my BiPap machine,” she explains. “I monitor my oxygen levels throughout the day and keep my machine on hand in case I need it.”
Despite lingering hiccups, she stated, “I feel great! I’m grateful to be alive, and it’s fun to progress as I am.” The first picture of Slaton without his oxygen tank appeared on his social media last month.
This is the second major achievement for the TLC star; shortly before that, he was photographed walking without assistance every day, either in a walker or a motorized wheelchair.

Slaton’s comments were filled with support and love as he slowed down that he was ditching the oxygen tank for now. He also decided to share unfiltered photos. “6 beautiful pictures of me without a filter,” she captioned the post.
Tammy’s weight loss doctor Eric Smith loves the look. “So proud of you❤️,” he wrote. Others marveled at Slaton’s skin. “Your skin looks so good! What do you use on it? Looks good, Tammy.”
“Damn, I like you better without the filter! You look more beautiful! ☺️,” supported another follower. Slaton has had confidence before, but this endorsement will please the reality star.

Slaton was 717 lbs when the series began. He is now under 550 lbs. This shocked Slaton and his family as he was very stubborn at first. “When I got on the scale, and I saw the scale was at 534.7, I kind of stopped breathing for a second,” he said in the latest season.
“I’m like 14 lbs. under my goal weight. From over 700, that’s a huge drop.” Tammy shared, “I was excited, proud, excited — just all the emotions. I proved everyone wrong. Everyone who doubted me, I finally got mine! The I-told-you-so moment!”
