Given her experience with anxiety and her association with loved ones suffering from mental illness, she believes “people shouldn’t suffer in silence.”

So, Henson dealt with her anxiety and depression by taking a “life-changing trip to Bali,” which she told Extra TV in detail. “I thought I had it all, you know, covered when I started the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation,” he said. “And I started to be vocal about it. And then I woke up one day and still didn’t feel well.”

He added that it was always a struggle, but he was there to fight, making him decide he needed a break. The “Empire” actress took her Bali vacation alone, calling it a “very spiritual trip” where she did nothing but “eat, pray, and love.”

He also took care of his mental health in the middle of the trip and was proud to attend the interview, feeling like himself again. Thanks to the trip, Henson learned how to breathe. He elaborated, “Breathing is the best. I didn’t fully understand breathing until I went to Bali because it’s a very spiritual place, and I meditate a lot.”

She revealed, “My anxiety got the best of me, so I would use weed or alcohol to help me feel loose or happy. It got to the point where none of it worked.” To make a difference in society, Henson’s mental health foundation partnered with Kate Spade New York to launch She Care Wellness Pods.

The new program aims “to reach more than 25,000 black women on HBCU campuses with frontline mental health care,” drawing on the Oscar winner’s experience as a young mother struggling through college.
