Taylor Swift took to her piano in Chicago on Friday night to call for anti-LGBTQIA+ government legislation. June 2 marks the second day of Pride month.

The speech of the 33-year-old “cowboy like me” singer was very touching during this Pride Month; The ACLU tracks the progress of nearly 500 bills by US lawmakers targeting LGBTQ rights.
Swift’s speech last night wasn’t the first time she’s used her platform to speak out against US lawmakers and their agenda.
‘Swifties’ will probably remember her passionate conversations with her team, including in the 2020 Netflix documentary “Miss. Americana,” where she tearfully explained why she felt it was important to use her platform to call for action by lawmakers of the day; Donald Trump was President at the time, and Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn’s seat in the Senate was up. Blackburn will ultimately retain their seat.
Before we delve into Swift’s speech last night, let’s take a look back at her famous political endorsements.
Swift Takes To Instagram To Explain Why She Voted Against Infamous Tennessee Lawmaker
In October 2018, Swift posted a sepia Polaroid to Instagram, and in the caption, she outlined why Blackburn wouldn’t get her vote.
In a long letter to his fans, he wrote, “…In the past, I was reluctant to voice my political opinions publicly, but due to several events in my life and the world over the last two years, I feel very different. about that now. I will always vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the basic human rights that I believe we deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe the systemic racism we still see in this country against people of color is terrifying, sickening, and pervasive…”

Swift will explain a little background about Marsha Blackburn and her policy.
“…As much as I have in the past and want to continue to vote women into office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. His voting record in Congress shocked and horrified me. She voted against equal pay for women. He voted against the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act, which seeks to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and dating r*pe,” continued the “coney island” singer. “He believes businesses have the right to refuse service to gay couples. He also believe they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values…”
Swift Also Wrote An Open Letter To Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander A Year Later
In the summer of 2019, Swift wrote an open letter to Lamar Alexander (R) of Tennessee, persuading him to vote for the Equality Act. This act will protect LGBTQ rights in the workplace.
According to our report, Swift wrote, “For Americans to be denied jobs and housing based on who they love or how they identify, in my opinion, is un-American and cruel.”
The “Hits Different” singer will also end her letter by urging Alexander to think about the consequences of his vote.
