Taylor Swift Is Celebrating THIS Band’s Songwriting Craft!

Taylor Swift has long been known for her songwriting talent. Despite her status as an award-winning songwriter, the “Champagne Problems” singer is still a student of her craft!

The 33-year-old, in the middle of his first tour since 2018, recorded two career-defining albums during the 2020 pandemic shutdown.

Swift enlisted the help of three specific songwriters to help her in the process: Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, Bleachers lead singer Jack Antonoff, and The National’s Aaron Dessner.

Dessner is featured heavily in Swift’s making-of documentary for her first record out in 2020, “Folklore: the long pond studio sessions,” which can be streamed on Disney+; Longpond happens to be Dessner’s studio, located in New York!

The two’s collaborative partnership extended to Dessner’s side project with Vernon, Big Red Machine. Swift provided lead vocals for her 2021 song “Renegade.”

Dessner’s main band, The National, announced their latest studio album in January!

The Blast covers the band’s LP and accompanying tour announcements.

“Frankenstein’s First Two Pages” has been given ringing backing from a certain musician with a pair of ears in the know! The “coney island” singer celebrated The National’s big news (the band also announced the first single from the album, “Tropic Morning News”) by celebrating it on her Instagram story.

He wrote, “AHHHHHH NEW NATIONAL ALBUM LET’S GOOOO AND SUFJAN AND PHOEBE,” and added, “an EXTRA BIG HUG TO THE KING OF THE PEOPLE @AARONDESSNER.”

Sufjan Stevens is featured on the album’s opening track, “Once Upon A Poolside,” and Phoebe Bridgers provides backing vocals for the fourth track, “This Isn’t Helping,” and is also featured on the tenth track, “Your Mind Is Not Your Friend.” Bridgers just released his second Boygenius album, “the record.” ‘Swifties’ are also likely to be familiar with Swift’s collaboration with Bridgers, “Nothing New,” from 2021’s “Red (Taylor’s Version).”

The band’s Instagram post announcement also detailed how fans can purchase “The First Two Pages of Frankenstein.” The LP is available on standard black vinyl, “opaque indie exclusive” red vinyl, white vinyl, CD and digital release.

The National released the full show schedule for the “First Two Pages of Frankenstein” tour earlier this week! The group also provided details in an Instagram post. The summer tour features 27 dates and kicks off next month, on May 18, in Chicago.

According to the post, some dates for the show are already sold out or have low ticket warnings. The tour will feature Soccer Mommy, The Beths, Patti Smith and Her Band, and US Girls as opening acts!

Swift ‘Enthralled’ With Country Songwriting Craft

The admiration between Swift and The National is mutual! The National teamed up as a full band with Swift on the aforementioned “coney island,” which was featured on her second album released in 2020, “Evermore.”

Swift shared a glimpse of her ‘love story’ with the band to The New Yorker after releasing “The First Two Pages of Frankenstein.”

Speaking to writer Amanda Petursich, she revealed the elements of The National she admires most.

Taylor Swift

“My love for The National stems from the lyrics and the soundscape the band created to compliment them,” Swift says perfectly. “There are many lines in their songs that are disturbing, daringly honest. I will always be amazed at how their lyrics can express darkness and wistful romanticism at the same time,” he continued. “There’s also such a synergy to the quality of Matt’s unspoken words [Berninger]The vocals and scenery the band created around him. The whole verse of ‘I Need My Girl’ where he talks about the woman losing her ass, driving the car to the park and apologizing to the vines. It sums up what sets them apart. They set the whole scene,” he concluded.

Swift is featured on the album’s seventh track, “The Alcott.”

Berninger discussed Swift’s collaboration with the group in the interview as well. He noted Swift’s ability to place herself within the narrative of the song’s subject.

“Taylor inhabits the character,” he says, of the woman in “The Alcott,” a song about a couple having second thoughts after their breakup. “He was always interested in his ways [Berninger’s wife] Carin and I wrote together,” added Berninger. Petursich noted that Berninger mentioned Swift’s curiosity about how the pair felt about writing together.

Berninger reportedly told Swift to “be careful but stay true” to their narrative, never leave anything out for fear of not telling the whole truth.

Dessner also helped write and produce four songs on Swift’s latest album “Midnights,” which was released last October, including the bonus track, “Hits Different,” which was included on the Target exclusive edition record. (via Instagram)
