Taylor Swift is giving back to her childhood community in Tennessee after a tornado devastated several of her counties over the weekend. It comes as state officials assess the extent of the damage shown after the heartbreaking incident.
Taylor Swift Helps Tennessee With $1 Million Donation
Since the tornado hit central Tennessee on Saturday, residents have been dealing with a variety of problems, including evacuations, dozens of people sent to hospitals, building damage, and overturned vehicles, among other things.
In response, Swift donated $1 million to the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund at the Middle Tennessee Community Foundation.
The “Cruel Summer” artist’s generous donation was confirmed by Hal Cato, CEO of the community foundation that manages funds that help non-profit organizations that offer vital services throughout all stages of a disaster. Some of the disaster relief services provided include immediate relief, short-term recovery and long-term recovery.

Cato revealed that the donation will “support immediate and long-term recovery needs” in Sumner County and surrounding areas most affected by the tornado.
Swift’s selfless act comes as no surprise to many as she maintains ties to Nashville, where she lives and has her office, despite her global reputation. His connection to the city dates back to his teenage years when he attended Hendersonville High School in Sumner County, one of several, including Davidson and Montgomery, that were hit hard by the storm.
The recent donation isn’t the first example of a newly minted millionaire quietly dabbling in philanthropy. As USA Today noted, the 33-year-old made large donations to food banks in every US city he played during his Eras Tour this year.
A spokesperson for the Arizona Food Bank Network revealed that Taylor Swift’s donation allowed the organization to send a tractor trailer with 40,000 pounds of fresh produce to its member food banks and support funding for programs that fight hunger.
Likewise, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley Food Bank revealed that during her tour stop in Santa Clara, California, Swift donated enough to “feed an average of approximately 500,000 people per month in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.”
His philanthropic activities also extended to his touring family after the Eras Tour finished its first leg in August. The megastar recently named Time magazine’s Person of the Year awarded a $55 million bonus to his team, which includes dancers, sound crew, truck drivers and catering staff.

As thousands of Tennesseans grapple with evacuations and other challenges, Tennessee officials are assessing the effects of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms that swept across the state on Saturday.
The terrible event, according to CNN, resulting in at least six deaths, over 50 injuries, widespread power outages, and extensive damage to many buildings. The outlet noted that officials confirmed on Saturday night that at least three people, including a child, lost their lives when the tornado hit the Clarksville area in Montgomery County in northern Tennessee.
Unfortunately, three more people were confirmed dead in Madison, Tennessee, north of Nashville, according to emergency management officials on Saturday night. An early look by the weather service showed that an EF2 tornado touched down near Madison and Hendersonville with peak winds of 125 mph.
On Monday, Nashville Fire Chief William Swann shared that first responders handled more than 400 calls overnight. He added that there are currently 25 homeless individuals in the shelter, which he expects will increase.
As for power outages, there were more than 35,000 reports of power outages across the state as of Sunday afternoon, according to the monitoring website PowerOutage.us. According to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, two water utilities are operating on generator power in Sumner County.
Additionally, respondents noted that 22 structures collapsed due to the storm, with many more sustaining damage. Regardless, Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell confirmed Sunday that Nashville Electric Service is working hard to restore power.
