Teamsters boss willing to meet senator after near-brawl: ‘I’ll wear football gear’

Teamsters General Manager Sean O’Brien said Thursday that he would be willing to sit down with the Republican senator who challenged him to a fight earlier this week, but the labor boss added that he would come prepared.

Talking about how Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) thought he was “going to bite” in a fight, O’Brien told Fox Business Network host Neil Cavuto that “I’m going to wear my football gear” if a meeting happens.

“I have no problem sitting with anyone. I have no problem sitting with Senator Mullin,” O’Brien said before adding: “I don’t want to be bitten, shot or caned for that matter, so I have to protect myself.”

O’Brien and Mullin came to blows Tuesday during a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing.

Mullin referenced a social media post made by Teamsters bosses a few months ago suggested two tangles, including one that read: “Stop acting tough in this senate hearing. You know where to find me. Any place.”

“Sir, this is the time, this is the place. You want to run your mouth? We can be two consenting adults. We can finish it here,” Mullin exclaimed.

Markwayne Mullin fired right after Sean O’Brien said he was down to fight.

O’Brien replied, “I’d like to do it now” and the two exchanged jeers. Then Mullin stood up from his seat and looked ready for battle.

Committee Chairman Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), 82, immediately intervened and defused the situation.

“It’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen,” O’Brien mused to Cavuto. “First, he said we were consenting adults, which was weird because it sounded like he wanted to meet me.”

The Teamsters boss looked shocked but stood his ground when Markwayne Mullin suggested they didn’t.

“Then he asked to fight me, and I heard now that he wanted to bite me. And then the last post he made was in front of a cache of automatic weapons where he said anytime anywhere,” continued O’Brien.

“Make up your mind. Do you want to date me, fight me, bite me, or shoot me? It doesn’t make sense.”

O’Brien referenced Wednesday’s podcast appearance, in which Mullin said: “I’ll bite 100%. In a fight, I’ll bite. I’ll do anything. I’m not on it, and I don’t care where I bite, that way.”

Mullin is a former MMA fighter, but O’Brien is not impressed and still thinks he can kick the senator’s butt.

“If you look at his opponents, most of them have losing records and everything,” O’Brien remarked, noting that he has several high school football games under his belt.

The Teamsters boss also insisted that he did not regret provoking the Oklahoman.

“I don’t because [during] My first interaction with Senator Mullin at my first hearing, he attacked me personally regarding my salary,” O’Brien said. “Then he proceeded to try and belittle everyone on the committee.”

“He behaved like a 12-year-old child in the school yard,” he added.

“I may not respect Markwayne Mullin, but I respect the position of the US Senator.”

Mullin has raised funds from the confrontation.

The 46-year-old senator previously said he would fight former porn star Stormy Daniels’ disgraced attorney Michael Avenatti, but that never materialized either.

Mullin was elected to the House in 2012 and moved up to the Senate after winning a special election to replace Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) who retired last year.

The Teamsters has 1.2 million members, is one of the largest labor unions in the country and represents workers in the trucking, railroad and publishing industries.

O’Brien also declined to endorse President Biden for re-election Thursday, telling Cavuto: “We haven’t made that decision yet.”
