A teenage suspect was arrested in the shooting of a security guard who was detonated in the head while breaking up a fight at a high school football game in New York over the weekend, police announced.
The suspect, a 16-year-old boy, turned himself in to police Sunday after he was identified through multiple videos of the shooting at Thomas R. Proctor High School, the Utica Police Department said.
Police said the teenager was not a student at the Utica high school but was enrolled in an “alternative education program.”
His name has not been released because he is a minor, and police said they are working to charge him as an adult.
The teenager faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, along with several weapons offenses.
Police said other individuals may also be charged in the incident.
The shooting happened shortly after 4pm on Saturday after a group was turned away from a varsity football game against nearby Binghamton High School.

The group of about a dozen people began fighting outside the soccer field and a pair of security guards rushed in to intervene, footage from the incident showed.
Two shots then rang out, and one of the guards fell to the ground with a gunshot wound to the back of the head, police said.
He was rushed to hospital in critical but stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery, according to police.
Investigators have not released an official motive for the initial fight, but police said it may have been gang-related.
The investigation is still ongoing.

The shooting is the latest shooting at a high school football game.
Just last week, a student was killed and a woman was injured after shots were fired at halftime during a game in Louisiana.
An 18-year-old teenager was arrested in the shooting.
In August, a 16-year-old was also killed when gunfire erupted from the stands at an Oklahoma football game.
