An Iowa high school firefighter cadet smiles in his photo after his arrest for allegedly creating a “hit list” of classmates and teachers he planned to harm in an arson attack, authorities said.
Kaelyn Alexis Surrell, 18, who flashed a big smile in her mugshot, was slapped with multiple counts of terroristic threats Tuesday after the disturbing plan came to light, KCRG reported.
The teenager is accused of listing at least seven Sidney High School students and staff he wanted to target in an “arson incident,” according to the criminal complaint.
Surrell allegedly planned to target those who had wronged him, or people he had interacted with negatively. The high school student had “potential knowledge to commit the act” because he was a cadet firefighter with the Shenandoah Fire Department, the complaint said.
Authorities were alerted to Surrell’s alleged plan after the teenager sent an alleged “hit list” to someone on Snapchat, according to the complaint.
