Terrifying footage has emerged of panicked passengers braced aboard a Norwegian cruise ship that lost power when it was hit by waves in the North Sea.
Passengers aboard the stranded MS Maud were captured on video wearing life jackets and holding tables after the ship was battered by 70ft waves and strong winds caused by Cyclone Pia last week.
“Lie on the floor!” a panicked person was heard screaming during the stomach-churning incident, according to footage shared by SWNS.
The ship, which left Tilbury Docks in the UK on December 9 carrying 266 passengers and 131 crew, lost power and navigational equipment when it was hit by a storm on December 21.
Among the passengers were Brian Launder, 75, and his wife, Carole, who were celebrating their 70th birthday with their maiden voyage, according to the outlet.
Launder, from Richmond, North Yorkshire, said he saw waves hitting their cabin windows on the fifth deck and water gushing through the corridor.

“At one stage they were preparing a lifeboat,” he told SWNS on Saturday, adding that they hoped to be home for Christmas before the maritime accident.
“The voyage had to be shortened because they had to weather the storm. We spend many hours immobilized without power. We spoke to the officials and they estimated the waves to be 15 to 20 meters high,” he said.

“We are worried when water comes in through the door. My wife was so calm, she helped this woman. He solved the problem,” continued Launder.
He said one person was injured by the poop, which is owned by Hurtigruten Expeditions.
“She had a baby in her arms but she flew,” he said, adding that “the captain had to move the bridge to the passenger lounge because three windows were blown away by the waves.”
On Sunday, he said a rescue vessel was alongside the Maud to provide navigational assistance after the vessel was diverted to Bremerhaven, Germany.

The couple plan to return to Hamburg for an early morning flight to Frankfurt and eventually return to the UK, where they are expected to arrive in London on Christmas Eve.
“Apart from the drama, we actually quite enjoyed it,” quipped the grandfather of four. “We have never been on a cruise ship before. I will definitely go for another one.”
Meanwhile, another video caught some passengers enjoying a bit of humor during the terrifying incident.
“Even in moments of fear, our fellow passengers found levity in the destruction of Gingerbread Town collapsing, splitting & sliding around us at Muster Station A Deck 5 18.19 21.12.23 #Hurtigruten #MSMaud temporary #StormPia raging around us,” wrote user X Oscar Dog.
He shared a video of a woman showing off a smiling elf doll as she sat on the floor of the litter deck, where she was surrounded by other passengers wearing orange survival gear.
