A mother and father who were kidnapped at gunpoint in front of their five minor children have been rescued from what Texas police say was a “targeted” kidnapping.
Samantha Esquivel-Zuniga, 38, and Ricky Zuniga, 37 were forcibly taken from their home in San Antonio Wednesday morning by several armed men who loaded them into a waiting SUV as their five young children watched in horror.
“The detectives, through their investigation, quickly realized that this was a targeted kidnapping; it was not a random act,” Sgt. Washington Moscoso of the San Antonio Police Department said Thursday.
“It’s not just this individual who chooses a house. This is a severe kidnapping targeted at this particular family. At this time, the public is never in any kind of danger.”
Police declined to name a motive for the crime.

After a very rare kidnapping in the Alamo City, law enforcement, including the San Antonio Police Department, the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations, worked through the night to find the two.
Thursday, police began moving into a home on the city’s west side, but before they could enter, the door opened and the couple walked out.
“People started coming out of the house,” police said. “All the officers who were there, started … controlling them to identify them.”

The parents were examined by doctors at the scene and later reunited with their children.
There were no other victims among the group, but the police detained two men who were later determined to be hostages.
The alleged kidnappers, Felipe Valdez, 40, and Xavier Martinez, 29, were arrested at the home.

The third man is still on the run. Police said they knew his identity but did not want to name him.
“F–k everybody,” Martinez yelled at members of the press as he was led out of police headquarters in handcuffs Thursday, before adding “F–k you!”
Police said the foul-mouthed suspect had outstanding arrest warrants in unrelated cases, including one for deadly conduct, evading arrest and interfering with public duties.
