Texas trio allegedly blew fentanyl smoke into newborn’s face to ‘pacify her cries’

Three Texas residents are accused of blowing fentanyl fumes into the face of a 19-day-old baby to “quiet her cries,” police said.

Police in Abilene arrested Robert Lee Mason Jr., Jennifer Trevino, Aracely Daniella Rocha and a newborn baby in a vehicle on Jan. 25 in front of the Frontier Inn & Suites, where they were staying, KVII reported.

Deputies with the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office found fentanyl in the vehicle, including in the baby’s diaper bag, according to the outlet.

When they searched the suspect’s hotel room, they were engulfed in smoke and had to wear breathing masks to enter.

An investigation revealed that the three had been smoking there in the presence of the child and deliberately blew fentanyl fumes into the baby’s face to “quiet her crying for the past few days,” the outlet said.

Mason Jr., Trevino and Rocha are each charged with four counts of second-degree child endangerment, a felony.

Rocha was also charged with possession of fentanyl and possession of amphetamine, KVII reported.
