‘The Crown’ Declared A ‘Love Letter’ To Late Queen Elizabeth II

Fans of the hit historical series may have to wait longer than they expected for the sixth and final season to debut after the Queen’s departure. Peter Morgan, creator of the Emmy-winning series, has revealed plans to stop production on the upcoming season over the devastating news.

‘The Crown’ Delays Season Six Production

According to Deadline , Morgan — who also wrote the 2006 film “The Queen” — stated in an email on Thursday, “The Crown is a love letter to [the Queen], and I have nothing to add, for now, just be quiet and respectful. I expect we’ll stop filming out of respect as well.”

It’s worth noting that Netflix has made a plan if the Queen dies while it’s running. Following the debut of “The Crown” in 2016 on the streaming platform, one of the directors and pioneers of its success, Stephen Daldry, spoke about what will happen after the death of the parents. In his words:

“None of us know when that time will come but it is right and proper to show respect to the Queen. It is a simple honor and sign of respect. She is a global figure and that is what we have to do.”

Daldry also emphasized that the Queen is “a remarkable woman and people will be disappointed.” Since its debut, “The Crown” has had three actresses play the Queen: Claire Foy, Olivia Colman, and Imelda Staunton, whose reign will begin on Netflix later this year.

Amid hiatus on “The Crown,” Helen Mirren – who portrayed Elizabeth in “The Queen” and the 2015 Broadway play “The Audience” – paid tribute to her. The Blast notes that Mirren – who was made a dame by the Queen in 2003 – shared the honor via Instagram, where she wrote:

“I am proud to be an Elizabethan. We mourn a woman, who, with or without a crown, was the epitome of nobility.”

The post has received over 60k likes and a thousand comments, with one writing, “You have brought him justice! RIP.” Another Royal Family sympathizer added: “That’s the most beautiful post I’ve read this evening xx [broken heart emoji],” and a third person told Mirren that she pronounced the tribute “beautifully.”

Queen Elizabeth II Had Several Health Problems Before Her Death

The Queen recorded her Annual Christmas BroadcastMEGA

The Blast recently reported that the British Royal family announced that the 96-year-old King had passed away, just hours after his doctors expressed concern over his deteriorating health. In a statement before his death, the Royal Family wrote:

“Following further assessment this morning, the Queen’s doctor is concerned about Her Majesty’s health and has recommended that she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and is at Balmoral.”

A further announcement from the ruling family read, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this evening. The King and Queen will be staying at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.” Queen Elizabeth II – born in 1926 – became Queen in 1953. Her husband, Prince Philip, died last year aged 99.

However, after only a few months of his death, a news channel mistakenly reported that the 96-year-old king had died of natural causes. And while the news was revealed to be false, it raised concerns about his health, especially after he tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this year.

Following this, Buckingham Palace stated that although the Queen is experiencing “mild flu-like symptoms,” she will continue to carry out “light duties” at Windsor Castle as she recovers. Later in May, Elizabeth canceled several of her engagements before the Platinum Jubilee celebrations began.

In a statement on May 9, Buckingham Palace said, “Her Majesty continues to experience episodic mobility problems.” On Thursday, June 2, the 95-year-old withdrew from attending the Platinum Jubilee National Thanksgiving Service at St Paul’s Cathedral set for the following day.

A Buckingham Palace statement at the time said that despite his reluctance to distance himself, the King had experienced “discomfort” during the first full day of celebrations. Her son Charles – the current King and former Prince of Wales – represented her at the service, which marked her 70th anniversary as Queen.
