‘The Daily Show’ Slammed For Not Making Roy Wood Jr. A Permanent Host

Roy Wood Jr. is looking for a new TV adventure after the end of his longtime relationship with “The Daily Show.”

The comedian became a beloved face on Comedy Central’s satirical show while acting as a reporter during Trevor Noah’s hosting days. When the South African sensation left the program in 2022, many believed Wood would fill his shoes, but the opportunity never came much to the dismay of fans.

The stand-up personality recently announced that future episodes of “The Daily Show” will no longer feature his comedic gifts. In a conversation with NPR, the 44-year-old insists he can’t wait to be a regular host.

“I can’t make a Plan B while still working on a Plan A. A journalist’s job…It’s not one where you can adjust various things. [And] I think eight years is a good run,” Wood explained, noting he did not know if Comedy Central had considered him for the position among other potential candidates.

Instead of longing for a job he might never get, the Florida A&M University alum packed his bags and left. When asked how the cable channel reacted to his sudden departure, the comedian resignedly said: “What can they really say? [They’re] won’t give me a job just to keep me.”

Despite his reclusiveness, Wood claims he would consider Comedy Central’s offer if the hosting position landed at his feet. On the other hand, the contestants don’t seem to be beating themselves up over the 44-year-old’s departure. A statement from “The Daily Show” reps expressed love for the TV personality but nothing about being sorry to see her go.

The star of the comedy special “Father Figure” thanked former host Noah, Paramount, and Comedy Central for allowing him to showcase his talents on “The Daily Show,” kicking off another successful run. These endeavors include Wood hosting two award-winning podcasts, writing and filming comedy pilots, writing movies and more.

“I look forward to finding other ways to work with them. I’m excited to cultivate new ideas and see what my future holds in the shifting sands of late night television, scripted comedy, and whatever else the comedy gods may have in store for me in 2024 and beyond,” the comedian concluded. parting order.

“The Daily Show really expects Roy Wood Jr. will survive, ready to be a dynamic sidekick, and watch as they woo less attractive (and deserving) people looking for someone to take their place as host. Just PLAY this man’s face,” disappointed user X beaten network.

A third echoed similar sentiments about the actor’s poor decision-making skills, declaring: “Roy Wood, Jr. is one of the best reporters The Daily Show has ever had, and he’s criminally underused. He should be the first choice for permanent host, no question.”

“Very, very curious why they want to test all new hosts when Roy Wood Jr. being there, he’s been killing it for years, and he’s ruining his hosting week. Really curious as to why they thought he wasn’t a good fit. I want to hear them say out loud why ? why ?,” another wondered.
