Barrymore addresses the situation and why she decided to return during the strike.

“I made the choice to leave the MTV, film and television awards because I was the host and it had a direct conflict with what the strike was dealing with which was studios, streamers, film and television. It was also the first week of the strike and so I did what I thought it was the right thing at that time to stand in solidarity with the writer,” his Instagram announcement read.

“And to be clear, our talk show actually ended on April 20th so we didn’t have to close the show. However, I also made the choice to come back for the first time in this protest for our show, which may have my name on it but this is more bigger than just me.”
