“The Little Mermaid” director Rob Marshall has revealed that Disney is approaching Harry Styles to play the role of Prince Eric in the upcoming live-action film.
He also shared that the actor eventually turned down the role, opting to go for darker movies and films that had nothing to do with the musical genre.
The singer was previously in a relationship with “Book Smart” director and actress Olivia Wilde and has apparently moved on to Emily Ratajkowski.
He has yet to confirm his relationship with the model although the two were spotted locking lips on the streets of Tokyo.

Talk with Entertainment WeeklyMarshall addressed rumors that the presenter of Disney’s upcoming live-action film “The Little Mermaid” is courting Styles to play the role of Prince Eric.
The film’s director confirmed that the speculation was true and shared the reason why the singer ultimately turned down the role.
“We met him. She’s beautiful. What a great guy,” Marshall told the publication, per Diversity. “But at the end of the day, he felt like he wanted to go and make the movie that he ended up doing, which was a little bit darker.”
Marshall also said that Styles wanted to “stretch himself” by not doing something related to the genre of music he was already familiar with.
“For a lot of young music people like Harry, you’re trying to carve your way, and you don’t want to be seen as a singer, necessarily,” the director said.

Losing the chance to get Styles on his Disney project doesn’t hurt Marshall’s prospects for “The Little Mermaid,” which hits theaters May 26.
He revealed that he was “very happy to have two young, new people in the movie,” referring to 27-year-old Jonah Hauer-King, who currently plays Prince Eric opposite co-star Halle Bailey’s Ariel.
King is best known for starring in the PBS adaptation of “Little Women.” At the same time, Bailey has made a name for herself in the music industry alongside her older sister Chloe Bailey but has recently become more interested in the acting industry.
Meanwhile, Styles has appeared in the whimsical drama “My Policeman” and Olivia Wilde’s “Don’t Worry, Darling,” in which he played a supporting role.

While Styles’ appearances in both films add to his film experience, the pop singer also found love while working on the set of Wilde’s second feature film.
The mother-of-two and Styles began a whirlwind romance shortly after they met on the set of “Don’t Worry Darling,” which lasted nearly two years.
They split in November, and it was reported that the split was “a very good decision.”
Styles’ busy tour schedule and Wilde’s desire to focus on her children and her work reportedly prompted their decision to end their relationship.
Sources say about both, per people magazine, “He and Harry are good friends; there is no animosity at all.”

Styles seems to have moved on to model Ratajkowski, as the two have been spotted hanging out separately, including enjoying a PDA-filled moment on the streets of Tokyo. The “Watermelon Sugar” creator is in the Japanese capital as part of the Love on Tour concert series, which resumes in May.
The style and model have yet to publicly confirm their romance, although a PDA moment fueled the rumours.
However, Ratajkowski hinted that she was starting to see someone during her appearance on the Going Mental with Eileen Kelly podcast. “I just started dating someone I like, so it feels different,” she said Many people. “He’s pretty awesome.”
She also revealed that trying to date was challenging because of the public and media focus on her life.
“The public element is quite difficult to navigate. Talk about really not caring what people think. People are always wrong,” said the mother of one.
