The Smiths’ Johnny Marr tries to stop Trump using their song: ‘Consider this s–t shut down right now’

He is a prickly boy.

The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has become the latest artist to try to “shut down” former President Donald Trump from using one of his songs.

The Trump campaign has played the legendary UK band’s 1984 song “Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” at several rallies over the years, including a stop in New Hampshire on Monday.

But that appeared to be news to Marr, 60, who tweeted back with his former band’s hit song played at a rally in September.

“Ahh … right … OK,” said legendary guitarist writes in response to someone stating that “you actually hear the Smiths more often than you think at Trump 2024 rallies.”

“I never in a million years thought this could happen,” he wrote.

“Consider this closed now.”

It’s unclear whether the rocker plans to pursue legal action to prevent him from using the nearly two-minute song again.

The Post has reached out to his agent for comment.

Marr isn’t the first artist to be surprised by Trump’s use of his music.

Marr told the Trump campaign in a post on X Wednesday to “consider this closed now.”

The Rolling Stones, Guns ‘N’ Roses and Rihanna are among those who have previously criticized the Trump campaign for using their songs at rallies.

The estates of Tom Petty and Leonard Cohen also sent a cease and desist letter to the former president’s campaign.

Neil Young also filed a lawsuit against the former president’s 2020 campaign to stop him from playing his song, but he quietly dropped it a few months later.

Still, Trump continues to dominate the race for the White House – holding off rival Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday.
