A terrifying video shows the moment a Ukrainian politician casually detonated several grenades during a heated village council meeting on Friday, injuring at least 26 people in what is being investigated as an act of terrorism.
The incident happened about 90 minutes after a meeting was broadcast live at the Keretsky Village Council in Ukraine’s Western Zakarpattia region on Friday.
A short clip shared by the National Police of Ukraine shows a man — later identified as deputy Serhiy Batryn, a member of the Ukrainian parliament — entering the council’s headquarters during a debate on finances.
“May I speak?” he finally asked — before pulling at least three grenades from his jacket pocket and throwing them on the floor.
The shocked crowd jumped and ducked for cover as the explosives detonated with a loud bang and flash, filling the hall with thick smoke and screams of pain.
“I can’t walk!” a woman’s sad voice is heard crying in Ukrainian during the chaos.

The blast injured 26 people, six of whom were hospitalized in serious condition, officials said.
The Security Service of Ukraine is investigating the explosion as an act of terrorism.
Batryn was initially said to have been killed, but police later clarified that doctors were trying to save her life.

Friday’s council session was held to approve the village’s budget for 2024, but Batryn, a deputy from the People’s Servant Party of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, argued that he and his colleagues should first give a full report on the 2023 budget before moving on to the next year.
Batryn also has a long-standing dispute with the village head Mikhail Mushka, reported Telegram channel Zakarpattya24.
Batryn had opposed the proposal to allocate a 50% raise and a monthly bonus for Mushka during the war, and had voted not to consider the village chief’s job performance satisfactory.
At the height of the budget debate, Batryn walked out of council headquarters and returned less than three minutes later to detonate a grenade.
