‘The View’ co-host Sunny Hostin ‘surprised’ by Taylor Swift being named TIME’s Person of the Year

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin appeared surprised by TIME magazine’s choice for Person of the Year, pop star Taylor Swift, and suggested other finalists such as Trump’s prosecutors or Hollywood hitmen might be more deserving of the title.

“He did everything, but for me, TIME magazine’s Person of the Year, having been the best man in 1927, when it started, it was ridiculous. But the other people up for this award are Hollywood hitmen, Trump prosecutors and I think after the media, law enforcement, Trump prosecutors might be able to save our democracy,” Hostin said.

Co-host Sara Haines noted that they “haven’t convicted him yet.”

“They also have a few other people, who I guess, if the motto for the magazine is ‘the person or people who most influence our news and our lives,'” Hostin said. “I was quite surprised by it.”

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg said Swift had the biggest impact, and thinks she deserves the title.

“We’ve sat at this table and talked about this girl and everything she’s done all year,” Goldberg said. “They have done this with various performers. They give it to people who have an impact. The impact was staggering.”

Hostin said he “didn’t take anything away from it,” but said he was “surprised by it.”

He said last year’s winner was Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and 2021’s winner was Elon Musk.

“So it could be for good or bad,” added Hostin.

Co-host Joy Behar seemed to change the subject toward the end of the segment by urging celebrities to use their influence to influence the 2024 election, declaring, “We’re in a state of emergency in this country because of Trump.”

“Because everybody knows now that we’re going to deteriorate if he comes in, we don’t have democracy anymore, everybody should know that,” he said.

“So I think people like Bruce Springsteen, who’s really good for people, who love him, and I love him too, and people like Howard Stern need to go out there and talk to their people,” Behar said.

Swift revealed details about her relationship with Chiefs player Travis Kelce and more during an interview with TIME.

“It all started when Travis really caught my attention on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” he says. “We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a lot of time that no one knew about, which I’m thankful for because we got to know each other.”
