Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are just as crazy about their 2003 romcom hit “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days” as they were two decades ago!
No love ferns were killed during the Instagram Live chat session where the two stars discussed the making of the film and answered fans’ questions about the film, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this week!
Excitement was fueled for the film’s two-decade milestone on social media last week, thanks to an oral history publication dedicated to the film, published by Vanity Fair in which the duo participated along with several members of the cast and crew!
The film has also made a social media splash in recent months on TikTok due to the popularity of Carly Simon’s career-defining hit, “You’re So Van” as the trending audio sound.
No Love Lost For ‘How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days’ From The Lead Actor!
If you need a refresher, “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days” tells the story of single girl Andie Anderson who is a journalist.
During a staff meeting, Andi is persuaded to write a fluffy piece about new relationships and dating, instead of venturing into the news-oriented territory she wants. He decided to take his work to the next level after throwing an experiment that explored whether it was possible to drive away a potential girl in less than a week, instead of taking the relationship to the next level! Little did he know that the man he later met at the bar, had the same premise in mind for a campaign at his advertising workplace!
McConaughey and Hudson were thrilled to see each other on Instagram Live, and shared their love for the movie that brought them together. McConaughey, who plays the ‘guy’ in question named Ben Berry, revealed that it feels like two decades have passed since the two made the film.
“It feels like a lot of life has happened,” Hudson replied in response. He also said he “couldn’t believe the life” the film has had since its release!
He also credits the aforementioned TikTok success for bringing the film into the spotlight for some renewed appreciation! McConaughey said he hasn’t seen any of the TikToks, but he seemed happy to see the movie “still sticks” as his co-star explained the viral “You’re So Vain” trend.
The duo also shared some examples of fan meetings where fans wanted to discuss “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” instead of a current project! Hudson recalled a story where she was recently shopping at Sephora, and was approached by a group of young girls who were excited to talk all things movie-related!
McConaughey later mentioned seeing interest in the film from the younger generation and explained how the film seemed “very current” to audiences. He also joked about receiving many check balances around Valentine’s Day over the years while the film enjoyed success on DVD and on cable.
The “Dazed And Confused” alum praised the unique sense of mischief that viewers seem to enjoy during the point in the film where Ben still doesn’t know Andie’s agenda. He describes this as “kind of an interactive experience with people watching him who are joking with him [Hudson] or in jest with me, at your expense or mine.
Hudson Reveals Fans Have Been Curious About The Duo’s On-Screen Lip Lock!
The duo received “thousands” of questions during their Instagram Live session, and Hudson revealed two questions that fans have been dying to know the answers to! He also revealed that he is asked one of the questions no matter what career he promotes. Burning question? What it’s like to lock lips with McConaughey!
This duo has been practicing a lot! In addition to co-starring in “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days,” they also starred in the 2008 film “Fool’s Gold” together.
“My thing is we’re always in a weird environment,” Hudson said of their intimate moments. With the exception of the scene where the couple kiss in the shower in the former film, McConaughey added “Everything else is not climate controlled!”
Smiling, Hudson then said, “As for our partners now… we kiss really well!” “I have to agree with you,” McConaughey replied, with a slight stutter!
Hudson’s love for his co-star is always on his mind when he thinks about working with McConaughey again, though it’s unclear whether any future projects will be sequels.
In a Vanity Fair oral history, Hudson said, “People always ask us [about a sequel] but nothing is in the works. I love working with Matthew, so I’m sure at some point we’ll work together again.”
