Thieves dramatically smash truck through front of Florida jewelry store — only to leave empty-handed: video

Dramatic security footage shows the moment three masked thieves ram a truck through the front of a Florida jewelry store — and then leave empty-handed.

Loud bangs and the sound of breaking glass could be heard as the flatbed truck backed through the front entrance of International Jewelers Exchange in Aventura, destroying doors and display cases, video obtained by WPLG shows.

Three men got out of the car and could be heard yelling at each other in Spanish as they climbed over the wreckage, according to the video. They didn’t seem to be after the jewelry but entered another room at the side of the store.

Just three minutes after the break-in, the thieves fled in the car without stealing a single thing, leaving a mess behind. They then ditched the truck, police said.

Police said they believe they left so quickly because of the quick response time by law enforcement, or possibly because of the store’s sophisticated security system.

“The alarm was activated and the police were notified and they responded ASAP,” Tony Austin, head of security at the International Jewelers Exchange, told WPLG.

Austin said that the thief may have tried to get to the safe inside the store.

“Three individuals in ski masks put the vehicle back inside for storage, frantically running around, and apparently unable to pull it away. They tried to connect the equipment, but it didn’t work and they ran away, they left the tow truck,” he said. “This place cannot be messed with. Airtight security, like Fort Knox,” Austin said.

Some of the shopkeepers, many of whom are Jewish, initially feared the attack might be targeted following Israel’s war with Hamas, but police said there were no signs of that.

The motive was simply to steal, said the police.
