A third person in the US has died and 96 have been hospitalized after eating betel nuts and pre-cut fruit products linked to a salmonella outbreak, causing concern among US health officials.
Five have died in Canada and 129 are also sick.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said 230 cases of the disease had been reported in the US as of the latest update.
The CDC says the total outbreak now spans 38 states and Canada.
The latest recorded start date is Nov 10.
Since the outbreak was first reported on November 17, an active investigation has been underway to determine whether other products are linked to the illness.
Several cantaloupe-related recalls have been issued. Crown Jewels Produce recalled whole fresh cane, Sofia Produce expanded the recall of whole fresh sugar cane, and CF Dallas recalled fresh cut fruit products made from whole sugar cane that were also subject to the recall.

People with weakened immune systems, the elderly, and children under the age of five are more likely to get severe infections.
