Tia Mowry Recalls Breastfeeding Struggles In Honor Of National Breastfeeding Awareness Month

Tia Mowry inspires moms because she’s candid about her breastfeeding challenges.

For those unaware, the 45-year-old German-born actress is the mother of two children — Cree and Cairo from her ended marriage to Cory Hardrict. As August marks National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, aimed at supporting and empowering breastfeeding moms, Mowry shows support with her personal story!

Tia Mowry Says Her Breastfeeding Journey Was A Difficult Journey

The “Sister, Sister” actress rang in National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, recalling her days as a breastfeeding mom. On his Instagram, he uploaded several photos that captured the different moments of the experience of putting it together.

In the first image on the carousel, the mother-of-two is seen breastfeeding her daughter Cairo, who seems lost in the moment.

Another photo captures Mowry with a breast pump attached to her as she grins. Elsewhere on the carousel is a picture of an emotional Mowry with watery eyes holding a breast milk storage bag.

Alongside the photo was a caption in which the “Twitch” actress detailed her struggles with breastfeeding. “When I had Cree, I struggled to breastfeed him,” Mowry shared. “I was only able to breastfeed for 3 months before I had to switch to formula milk.”

The “Detention” actress went on to reveal that her daughter’s breastfeeding is different because of Instagram, where she learned more about breastfeeding and got support from other women. Therefore, she “was able to nurse Cairo for 13 months.”

However, the actress stated that despite her support, her breastfeeding journey has not been smooth sailing. In her words, “However, the journey was tough. I pumped every 3 hours at work while working 14 hours a day on set, and sometimes I had to breastfeed on set as well.”

Mowry added that due to the stress of breastfeeding, she developed “mastitis, which is a painful infection of the breast tissue, and had to be hospitalized.” But being hospitalized didn’t stop her from feeding her little one. “But even through long days and being hospitalized, I still didn’t give up. I continued to nurse through the pain and reject it.”

Recounting her experience, the “Seventeen Again” actress left encouraging words for mothers struggling with breastfeeding. He wrote,

“And if you are struggling with breastfeeding, I want you to know that it is better to formula feed your children. As long as your children are fed, loved, happy, and supported, that’s all that matters.”

Two days before Mowry came clean about her struggles with breastfeeding, she sent out a PSA to all moms, saying motherhood isn’t about perfection. In the inspirational video, the TV producer stated, “You don’t have to be perfect to be a good Mom. You don’t have to compare yourself to other mothers.”

“It’s okay if you feel overwhelmed by motherhood. This is s— difficult. You can relax … the world won’t stop spinning. I’m so proud of you.”

‘Kakak Kakak’ Actor Reveals Her Kids Inspired Her Divorce

For Mowry, his two children mean a lot to him, and he previously revealed that they were an inspiration when he made the difficult decision to file for divorce.

The TV personality explained the important role her children played in her big decision. He said, “Part of my decision is also for them. Because they see their mother walking in the truth. I think it’s a good lesson for them because it’s not an easy decision.”

He added, “It’s one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made in my entire life. But if they see that mom can do it, that mom, no matter what people say, no matter, even if there’s some kind of doubt, whatever, mom reject it.”

According to the producer, she decided to show her children that she lives her truth and let them know that it’s okay to live their lives for themselves. The former Disney star admitted it was the “best gift” she could give her two children.
