Tim Scott rips Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy as ‘Joe Biden wing’ of GOP

WASHINGTON – Presidential hopeful Tim Scott criticized the foreign policy platforms of 2024 rivals Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy Tuesday, saying the pair formed “the Joe Biden wing of the Republican Party.”

The South Carolina senator also criticized the sitting president during a speech on Israel’s war against Hamas at the Hudson Institute in the capital, accusing Biden of “weakness” and arguing that his policy on Iran was partly responsible for Saturday’s brutal terrorist attack that killed more than 1,000 people in the Jewish state.

The 58-year-old later accused certain conservatives of “weakness” and “confusion” in foreign affairs as well.

“Vivek Ramaswamy has said the definition of success is reducing American support for Israel,” Scott said. “And he suggested that we hand over Taiwan to the Chinese Communist Party as long as we moved some factories. Governor DeSantis once dismissed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as just a ‘territorial dispute'”.

“The last thing we need is a Joe Biden wing of the Republican Party on foreign policy,” he added.

Ramaswamy’s spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin fired back, telling The Post that Scott “lied.”

“We understand Tim Scott is trying to get some parity in this race, but lying in the face of this barbaric cruelty is not an effective way to do so,” he said.

McLaughlin added that Ramaswamy “has offered a clear and rational response that supports Israel while avoiding another US-led disaster in the Middle East.”

I am appalled by the barbaric and medieval attacks of Hamas. Shooting civilians and kidnapping children are war crimes. Israel’s right to exist & defend itself cannot be doubted and Iran-backed Hamas & Hezbollah cannot be allowed to win. I stand with Israel and the US…

The billionaire’s campaign website states he “will not cut aid to Israel until Israel tells the US it no longer needs it.”

The Washington Free Beacon reported that Ramaswamy had told the outlet in August “the real sign of success for the US, and for Israel, is to reach 2028 where Israel stands firmly on its own two feet, integrated into the economy and security infrastructure across the East.” Central, that it will not require and rely on the same level of aid or historical commitment from the US”

Ramaswamy also said he would change his stance on China’s threat to Taiwan after he achieved “semiconductor independence” for the US.

DeSantis has spoken publicly about wanting to end the “black check” the US is giving Ukraine in its fight against Russia and has accused Biden of funding “both sides” of the Ukraine-Russia war with his Green New Deal policies.

“If you want to put a clamp on Putin and Russia, open up America’s domestic energy production. We have the best reserves in the world,” the Florida governor told a New Hampshire radio station on Tuesday. “That’s bad for Russia, bad for Iran, bad for China. He also gave Iran $6 billion and eased sanctions on them. Iran funds Russia and finances this conflict. So, I have the ability to enter. I think we need to end this. I don’t think it’s in our interest.”

DeSantis also said that as president, he would “do what is in the best interest of the United States,” not Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Florida governor, like Scott, had strong words against Biden’s policy on Iran on Tuesday, calling on the US to stop funding countries that funnel cash to Hamas.

“The United States has to turn every screw so Iran doesn’t get money flowing into its coffers,” DeSantis told MSBNC’s “Morning Joe,” “especially with their oil.”
