Todd And Julie Chrisley Will Served A Combined 19 Years In Prison

Todd and Julie Chrisley of American reality television have allegedly started their combined 19-year prison sentences. Todd, 53, went to the Federal Prison Camp in Pensacola, Florida, on Tuesday, January 17, where he will begin a 12-year sentence. Julie, 50, meanwhile, arrived at Lexington, Kentucky’s Federal Medical Center, where she will serve a seven-year prison sentence. According to Entertainment Tonight, his first destination was Florida, but that changed on December 20, 2022, from Marianna’s Sunshine State Correctional Institution to his current prison.

Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley were convicted of bank fraud and tax evasion.

Todd and Julie were found guilty in June 2022 after federal prosecutors said they were part of a massive bank fraud conspiracy and hid their income from tax authorities while flaunting their lavish lifestyles. During their trial, prosecutors alleged that the couple used false papers to obtain nearly $30 million in illegal loans from banks. However, when they were unable to repay, they filed for bankruptcy.

According to USA Today, prosecutors stated:

“The Chrisleys have built an empire on the illusion that their money is earned through hard work and commitment. The unanimous conviction proves the truth: Todd and Julie are professional con artists who have built a living by jumping from one fraudulent scheme to the next, lying to banks, screwing up suppliers, and dodging taxes at every turn.”

In addition to the two, their accountant, Peter Tarantino, was convicted. According to the Department of Justice, he was charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the government and two counts of knowingly submitting a false tax return.

Todd and Julie started their reality television program and “showcased their money and lifestyle to the American public” while insolvent, according to prosecutors. They also kept the plan millions of dollars from the IRS. Prosecutors also allege Todd and Julie encouraged their friend to lie under oath and provide jurors with false documents.

“The Chrisleys were exceptional in terms of the variety and breadth of their fraudulent activities, as well as the extent to which they engaged in fraudulent and obstructive behavior over an extended period of time.”

Julie’s attorney argued in court documents after the trial that she only had a small part in the tax fraud case, and that instead of jail time, probation with special sanctions would be the appropriate penalty. The couple maintained their innocence and fought their convictions in court. Chrisley Knows Best, a 2014 reality television program on the USA Network, catapulted the Chrisleys to popularity. They were in the program with their three children, Chase, Savannah, and Grayson.
