Several sources recently confirmed that both Bündchen and Brady have hired divorce lawyers amid ongoing rumors of marital issues. “I never thought this argument would be the end of them, but it seems to be,” a source said. “I don’t think there will be a return now. They both have lawyers and are looking at what the split will be, who gets what and how the finances will be.”
Now, a source close to Brady is speaking out, telling PEOPLE how the quarterback is handling all of this. “It’s pretty clear that he’s hurt,” the source said. “He felt very hurt by it.”
“He’s the one driving the divorce,” said one source. “He’s playing offense and he’s playing defense. He wants to protect himself, protect his interests, but he’s just starting to go down the legal route to defend her from him. He doesn’t want this to get ugly, he doesn’t want to fight. If the divorce is happening — and it seems so — he wants it to go as smoothly as possible.”
The divorce was tough on Brady, especially since he was used to winning. “Think about it: Tom has a very charmed life,” the source admitted. “Things always seem to go his way. He works hard, he’s a good guy, he hasn’t had a lot of things go wrong in his life. This is terrible for him. You can tell that it really hurts.”

I moved to Boston, and I focused on creating a cocoon and a loving environment for my children to grow up in and be there to support them and their dreams. Seeing my children succeed and become the beautiful little human beings that they are, seeing her succeed, and be satisfied in her career—it makes me happy. At this point in my life, I think I’ve done a good job of that.”
