Top ex-Hamas minister blames Gaza ‘madmen’ for war, says Palestinians do not support them

A former top Hamas official says Gaza’s “crazy people’ including notorious leader Yahya Sinwar are causing the war and that Palestinians every day don’t support them, according to a newly released interrogation video.

Yousef al-Mansi, the former communications minister for the Palestinian terrorist organization, surrendered to Israel – and went on to slam Sinwar as the leader of a group of madmen who plunged the Jewish state and Gaza into a horrific conflict once again by orchestrating October 7. terrorist attack that killed more than 1,200 people, the Times of Israel reported.

“Crazy people throw huge rocks,” al-Mansi said, summing it up for Israel’s Shin Bet investigators in a video published Sunday.

“This is a group of madmen led by Sinwar. They destroyed the Gaza Strip. Put it back 200 years,” he said.

Al-Mansi described Sinwar as suffering from “delusions of grandeur” and claimed that no civilian in Gaza supported Hamas or its leadership after more than two months of war had devastated the Palestinian territory.

Gaza’s Hamas-aligned Health Ministry estimates more than 17,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war, mostly women and children, with the United Nations and independent research groups estimating that much of northern Gaza’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed as well.

“People in the Gaza Strip say that Sinwar and his gang are destroying us,” al-Mansi said. “I have never seen anyone in the Gaza Strip supporting Sinwar, no one likes Sinwar. There are people who pray day and night for God to free us from him.”

Like other Hamas members whose interrogations were recorded and broadcast to the public, al-Mansi added that the group knew the October 7 attack was against Islamic values, which forbid the killing of women, children and the elderly.

“What they are doing is not acceptable according to logic, religion or reason,” said al-Mansi.

The condemnation by a former Hamas official came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu touted the latest wave of Hamas surrenders in Gaza, calling for more members of the terror group to surrender and stop fighting for Sinwar.

“They laid down their weapons and surrendered to our heroic soldiers,” Netanyahu said of the surrender in recent days.

“I said to the Hamas terrorists: It is over. Don’t die for Sinwar. Surrender now,” he added.

Last week, the IDF surrounded Sinwar’s home but believe he escaped and is hiding somewhere in Hamas’ underground tunnel system.
