Dean McDermott has finally opened up about his split from his ex-wife, Tori Spelling.
In a new interview, the actress shares her side of the story of how her marriage fell apart and also talks candidly about how much it was affected by her addiction to prescription pills and alcohol.
McDermott announced his split from Spelling in a since-deleted Instagram post. The former couple, who share five children, have yet to officially file for divorce.

In the candid interview, “Chopped Canada” host McDermott talks about his marriage to Spelling and how he’s always taken care of her throughout their 17-year marriage.
“All Tori has done to this day is want me to be happy and healthy, and I caused a lot of damage and pain to that woman,” McDermott said. “I am responsible for that today. And it was the biggest change I had to make.”
The actress admitted that it reached a point in their marriage when they started living like “roommates.” McDermott shared with the news outlet that he battled depression amid his family being constantly attacked by the paparazzi and facing financial difficulties.
He talked about how he would get drunk on tequila and drugs and go into “alcohol-fueled rages,” leaving Spelling and their children “bloated.”

While talking to him Daily MailMcDermott spoke about his journey to get clean and noted that his message announcing his split from Spelling was sent while he was under the influence.
McDermott admits, “alcohol makes me feel pretty good. I started out feeling pretty good until it got to the point where it didn’t – it ended up in isolation. It ended with me drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and a handful of narcos [prescription meds] alone with a beautiful family in another room.”
He told the news outlet that it was “what led to the destruction and what happened in between [him] and Tori,” added, “I just can’t do it anymore. I can’t live that life anymore. I’m tired of the anger and the yelling.”
McDermott also revealed that he has started talking to Spelling again and is “desperate” to see his children. They have not spoken to each other since he moved the 50-year-old and their children out of their home due to a fungal infection in June.

Since their split, both Spelling and McDermott have moved on with new partners. Spelling is currently dating advertising CEO Ryan Cramer, while McDermott has been spotted with a 33-year-old Texan named Lily Calo.
Despite his blossoming romance with Calo, the 56-year-old actor revealed that he still has love for his estranged wife.
He said, “It was a fairy tale. I mean, it was a beautiful love story. Love at first sight and getting married in the most beautiful way. It was a dream come true. And then we had to go back to Hollywood and deal with all the s— people give us.”
“After we got married, they all said ‘give it six months.’ Well, so much for six months – we’re showing you because it’s 18 years and five kids,” added McDermott.
She Blamed Herself For The Breakdown Of Her Marriage

During his emotional interview, McDermott, now clean, stated that he was responsible for the collapse of his marriage to Spelling, noting that his addiction to alcohol and drugs made it difficult to live with him.
“It’s going to take me the rest of my life to make amends because I took something really beautiful and I just demolished it year after year, day after day,” McDermott admitted.
He told the news outlet about the beginning of his relationship with Spelling and how he liked her long before they were introduced to each other on the set of the 2005 film, “Mind Over Murder.”
At that time, they were both with other people; Spelling is married to actor Charlie Shanian, while McDermott is married to singer Mary Jo Eustace, with whom he shares a 25-year-old son, Jack.
Since their split in June, neither Spelling nor McDermott have officially filed to legally end their marriage.
