Tory Lanez’s push for a new trial continues as her attorney informs fans of misleading witness testimony used in the case.

The battle between the “Say It” rapper and Megan Thee Stallion began in 2020 after the female artist was shot in the leg. Since naming the Canadian entertainer as her attacker, the couple have been at the center of heated debate over the incident.

However, a jury slapped the 30-year-old with a guilty verdict in 2022. Following his conviction, the father-of-one actively fought for a retrial based on insufficient proceedings. Read on to know more about the latest updates in the case.

Jose Baez, the criminal defense attorney in charge of the entertainer’s case, recently took to his Instagram Story to share the shocking truth about his client’s trial.

Regarding the photo of himself in the suit, the legal practitioner’s message suggests that the jury found Lanez guilty after hearing “false” testimony from eyewitnesses. The lawyer said this is a common problem in the justice system.

“Eyewitness misidentification accounts for approximately 69% of the more than 375 wrongful convictions in the United States overturned by post-conviction DNA evidence,” Baez explained in his post.

The “Who Needs Love” singer’s social media followers added the hashtag, “@torylanez #freetory #freetorylanez #freetory!!!!.” Following his announcement, the New Yorker dropped a sample of what he implied was mistaken eyewitness identification in the shooting.

A screenshot of the courtroom dialogue follows a conversation between the defendant’s representative and a witness. According to the unidentified person, they had seen two girls fighting at the scene.

When investigators asked if the person witnessed one of the women shooting the other party, the individual replied: “I believe so, but….” The attorney interjected, asking for confirmation that bystanders had seen Lanez try to take the gun from the shooter.

Although the prosecutor objected to the lawyer’s statement as “leading,” the court dismissed the interruption and allowed the defense to continue. “Is that what you said?” the lawyer asked, “Yes!!!” the witness answered.

In two versions of the eyewitness account, the question posed to the bystander read: “Sir, did you state that after the shooting, the shorter man tried to take the gun from the shooter?”

“I have never seen it. I mean, it’s not something that takes a long time. Everything was a moment,” answered the witness. Unfazed by the individual’s statements, investigators asked bystanders to describe what they saw the rapper do after the woman allegedly fired the gun.

“I just saw him rage. He screamed. And he – then – he then – lightning then came from him. I never saw a gun. I want to be clear,” said the witness.

In his final post, Baez suggested that this eyewitness testimony proved his client needed a retrial. The author of “Presumed Guilty” wrote, “This is why the jury must hear the DNA exonerating Tory Lanez. It was a phase that someone shot the gun five times; it recovered immediately and left no DNA.”

One Umbrella Founder’s Lawyer Claims His Client Will Share Important Information About His Case

A few weeks ago, The Blast reported that the “Enchanted Waterfall” rapper’s lawyer had revealed new details in the shooting case. The criminal defense attorney shared a post about National DNA Day on her Instagram Story.

“Today is National DNA Day. We are pleased to announce that Tory Lanez will release information about the DNA in his case that provided false and misleading information to his jury,” the New Yorker wrote in its April 25 post.

While Baez did not share additional information about the new evidence or its release date, his statement hinted that the DNA may have influenced Lanez’s guilty verdict. The legal practitioner’s client had previously highlighted similar claims.

In a fiery letter written to LA County District Attorney George Gascon, the 30-year-old prosecutor alleged several wrongdoings. These charges include suppressing “exculpatory evidence” that proves the rapper’s innocence.
