A Canadian tourist who suffered a panic attack and believed he was being stalked by an underground organization on a crowded passenger plane allegedly tried to unlock the emergency exit during takeoff.
Wong Sai Heung, 40, was arrested on Wednesday after he intimidated fellow travelers trying to exit the Airbus A320 as it took off from Chiang Mai International Airport in Thailand at around 9pm local time, according to Nation Thailand.
Shortly after the doors closed and the plane was lined up on the runway, Heung started shouting and allegedly asked the flight attendant to open the door of Thai Airways flight TG121 so he could exit the plane.
As the flight attendant refused to comply with Heung’s request, he sped towards the exit door at the back of the plane’s cockpit and tried to open it.

Soon after, law enforcement stormed the plane and arrested the crazed tourist.
“All passengers, pilots and crew are safe,” the airline told the outlet.
The tourists’ anger also disrupted other arriving flights, which had to wait in a holding pattern in the sky to land because of the active scene on the runway.
Wong was charged with acting in a way that endangered the aircraft and was then taken to the Phuping Rajanivej Police Station for questioning.

Wong, who told police he worked as a computer engineer in Vancouver, explained that he suffered a panic attack, which was triggered before the plane was set to take off.
A translator for Canada told police that Wong feared he would be attacked, adding that he was being stalked by an underground organization, the outlet reported.
The fear then allegedly caused him to open the door so he could jump from the plane.

After TG121 was returned to the gate, Thai Airways said the plane departed for Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport at around 12:30am the next day.
Wong’s allegedly insane episode and arrest came just two weeks after an Air Canada passenger “in a state of crisis” tried to open the door on a flight from London to Toronto, forcing fellow passengers to restrain him.
An elderly man on Flight AC855 on January 21 tried to open the plane’s door mid-flight, which is impossible at cruising altitude.
Cabin crew restrained passengers “as part of their flight safety protocol,” police told the outlet. He was found by police at Toronto Pearson International Airport around 3 p.m
In another terrifying incident on January 10, a passenger on a different Air Canada flight opened the plane’s door and fell onto the runway while boarding in Toronto for a flight to Dubai.
The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital after the incident, which resulted in a six-hour delay.
