Transgender woman accused of sexually abusing infant escapes jail time after copping plea deal

A transgender daycare worker who pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct after she was accused of molesting a baby girl while changing the child’s diaper will be spared a prison sentence, according to reports.

Maria Childres, 25, allegedly bragged to co-workers at Explore Learning Academy in Paducah, Ky., about two hours north of Nashville, that the child “loved” the November 2022 abuse.

An anonymous whistleblower apparently told authorities they saw Childres, who was born a boy named Mark, rub the child’s genitals in a “circular motion” and that the baby appeared to be in distress, according to court records obtained by news site Reduxx.

The co-worker had asked Childres to help change the baby’s diaper and Childres allegedly told the co-worker, “that’s her clit and she likes it. It just made her day.”

The daycare director apparently was aware of Childres’ behavior with the baby but only gave her a “text,” police found when they went to the facility, WPDS-TV reported last year.

When questioned by police, Childres initially denied changing the baby’s diaper but later admitted to doing so after being shown texts between herself and the daycare boss, according to reports.

Reduxx obtained court records detailing the full complaint against Childers, revealing that he was accused of physical and sexual abuse while working at the daycare.

Police later discovered Childers had also been accused by other co-workers of leaving children in high chairs for “hours” unattended.

During questioning, Childres tried to deny ever saying anything inappropriate, but admitted he often said things that were “taken out of context.”

The child was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 12, and three counts of first-degree criminal abuse of a child.

Court records show that just a month after being jailed on the felony charge, Childers personally retained trans activist attorney Madison Leach to represent him, and the felony was later reduced to a misdemeanor by Judge Joseph Roark.

After some negotiations between the court and Leach, Childres’ bond was reduced from $100,000 to $5,000 surety. Bond conditions include no contact with children or with the daycare where she works. Childres was released from custody last month.

Childres reached a plea deal with prosecutors on January 29, Reduxx reported.

In exchange for the guilty plea, he was only charged with misdemeanor sexual misconduct and the remaining abuse charges were dropped.

Judge Roark gave Childres a 12-month sentence, but suspended the sentence and imposed six months of conditional discharge — meaning that if Childres complies with court-imposed conditions within those six months, she will serve no prison time at all, and may not receive a criminal record.
