Travis Wittlake Injury: After only a short break from wrestling, the wrestler has returned to the ring eager to prove himself. Travis, an Oregon wrestler, was sidelined for a while with an injury. His comeback, however, has captivated fans and supporters of Oregon’s two-time Wrestler of the Year.
Travis, from Coos Bay, Oregon, earned two-time All-America honors with the Cowboys, totaling 79 wins in Stillwater. Wittlake, who attended Marshfield High School, won four state championships with an impressive 196-2 record and was a four-time All-American. In his second season, he started with a perfect 14-0 record and finished with a 22-3 overall record, including a perfect 10-0 in duals throughout the 2020-21 season. Additionally, he struck out six opponents on his way to a third-place finish in the Big 12 tournament and a fourth-place finish in the NCAAs, finishing his second season with All-American honors.
Travis Wittlake Injuries & Health: Did He Have an Accident?
The wrestler accidentally suffered two leg injuries, causing him to miss time on the mat. Wittlake allegedly injured his ankle while competing in the Junior National Duals at the end of June last year. Additionally, a wrestling move during the bout caused Travis Wittlake, OSU’s 165-pounder, to injure his left knee. He wrestled for a few more fights but was injured again in Bucknell’s two games, forcing him to miss the final two games of the regular season.
It even kept him from qualifying for the NCAA event for the third year in a row. He now returns to the competition, knowing that he still has to prove himself. Travis recalls the incident as a unique event, underlining that he had never been in that situation before.
“That one was hard to watch,” he said. It’s weird not having any pressure, just being able to watch a tournament without an emotional connection because you’re not in it. So it’s something I have to deal with.”
Travis Returns to Oregon
Wittlake, a two-time All-American for OSU, announced his transfer to Oregon State on Instagram in September 2023, with one year of eligibility remaining. Later, wrestling writer Pat Mineo confirmed the story by reporting that Wittlake had entered the transfer portal. Many supporters in his hometown were overjoyed when he returned to his local club. In addition, Travis expressed his enthusiasm to return to Oregon in the interview.
He said,
“I haven’t wrestled in Oregon in a while. I’m pretty excited. “A lot of people came out to watch.”
Wittlake reunited with coach Chris Pendleton after transferring to Oregon. Chris worked as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State before taking over as the Beavers’ head coach. Likewise, Wittlake now fights in a weight class two levels higher than he has for most of his career. Although illness hampered his progress, he worked hard over the summer to get up to 184 pounds. Plus, he bounced back by wrestling Trey Munoz, giving Wittlake a tough challenge to prove his place in his new weight class.
