Trio caught on video ripping down Israeli hostage posters on NYU campus: ‘Cowards’

Young people were caught on camera on the NYU campus tearing down posters of hostages in the Israel-Hamas war, prompting social media outcry and calls for the university to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Three people can be seen outside NYU’s Tisch Hall in a video circulating on social media tearing down dozens of posters, which have been plastered across the Big Apple to shine a light on those who have been abducted since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7.

No one stopped the group from tearing down the poster, but afterwards, viewers can be heard in the video calling the aftermath “terrible, terrible, terrible.”

Videos and social media posts, including those shared by the NYU Chapter of Students Supporting Israel, identify the individuals as students.

“Today, we witnessed 2 NYU students tear down posters of kidnapped babies, mothers and grandmothers hanging outside the NYU Building,” the group writes on X.

“This was done in a laughable manner, showing complete disregard for Jewish life and Jewish safety,” NYU’s SSI added.

The group, which describes itself on its social media as a “grassroots movement,” said it was working to identify the trio involved.

We are currently trying to identify this student.

– WE FEEL UNSAFE AND THIS IS VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!

We ask NYU to offer actions that PREVENT violence, that there are SERIOUS consequences to antisemitic actions.

NYU did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment Tuesday morning.

An Instagram post sharing the image and video, which garnered nearly 11,000 likes in a day, called on NYU to “hold these cowards accountable.”

Shocked social media users immediately urged the university to fire the student involved.

“There needs to be accountability for this level of blatant hatred,” wrote one person on Instagram.

“I do not understand. They can spend their time raising the voices of innocent Gazans and instead, they think tearing up pictures of missing children is ‘activism,’” said another.

Other commenters blasted NYU for not standing up for its Jewish students, while others expressed their hope that the photo would be shared with potential employers of the offenders.

Red and white posters with the word “KIDNAPPED” written in all capital letters across the top have been plastered all over New York City, as more than 200 people have been taken hostage by Hamas, and about 50 more kidnap victims are being held by “dissident factions and in another place,” a Hamas military official said on Monday.

Similarly, other posters featuring the faces of missing Israeli children and adults placed throughout the city were also vandalized.

Stop Antisemitism, a non-profit organization, shared a photo taken in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, of the vandalized poster on Monday night.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn – posters for the 199 Israelis abducted (including Americans) by Hamas terrorists to Gaza were defaced last night with graffiti that read “apartheid” – a letter on each poster.

“Posters for the 199 Israelis abducted (including Americans) by Hamas terrorists to Gaza were defaced last night with graffiti stating ‘apartheid’ — one letter on each poster,” the organization wrote.

At least 30 US citizens have been killed since the conflict broke out, while 13 others are still missing.

At least 1,400 people in Israel and 2,808 in Gaza have been killed since Hamas launched its surprise attack on the Jewish state on October 7, prompting the Israeli military to prepare an expected “integrated and coordinated attack from the air, sea and land” in response.

As the war enters its 10th day, President Biden is set to visit Israel on Wednesday. His trip comes as the Israel Defense Forces prepare to invade Gaza to purge Hamas.
