Trooper Taylor and his wife, Evi Crosby Taylor, have been married for more than three decades. His partner had been a very accomplished college athlete, like him. Read on to find out! Carl “Trooper” Taylor was born in Cuero, Texas on February 20, 1970. He was born and raised in a family of sixteen. He attended Baylor University and received his bachelor’s degree in 1992. Trooper was more than just a college student; he is also an avid soccer player.
Taylor was a quarterback for the Baylor Bears from 1988 to 1991, finishing his career as the school’s leader in kickoff returns and punt return distance. Taylor joined his alma mater’s coaching staff as a graduate assistant for two years after leading the Bears to the 1991 Copper Bowl.
In 1994, after receiving his degree, he was named the wide receivers coach by the squad. He currently serves as interim head coach after Mike Elko left to return to Texas A&M as head coach. Taylor previously served as an assistant coach at Auburn University. Between January 2009 and December 2012, he served as the assistant head coach and wide receivers coach.

It may seem like a fairy tale, but Trooper Taylor’s wife, Evi Crosby Taylor, was his bachelor’s love. The couple met in college when both were varsity athletes. Trooper is a football player, and Evi has a track and field scholarship at Baylor. In 1993, right after graduation, they had their ideal wedding on the football field at Floyd Casey Stadium.

His wife is currently associate dean of MSW education and clinical assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work. She is a qualified clinical social worker with more than 25 years of experience dealing with diverse populations in alternative schools. Evi focuses on juvenile justice programs, hospitals, residential treatment facilities and private practice. Dr. Taylor has served as MSW Director and co-chair of the Arkansas State University Department of Social Work.
He was awarded the University Excellence in Teaching Award in 2017 and the University Excellence in Service Award in 2018. Furthermore, Dr. Taylor was profiled in Women in Higher Education in 2018. Dr. Taylor is on the board of directors for The Power of One or Two, Inc. In fact, it is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering, educating and improving the lives of children and families through the provision of resources and opportunities. Dr.’s research interests Taylor includes implicit stereotypes and prejudices, educational inequalities and mental health related to sport. He has presented national and international speeches on racial differences.
Taylor Named Duke Interim Head Coach
Previously Associate Head Coach and Running Backs Coach Trooper Taylor has accepted the position of Interim Head Coach for Duke Football. This transition occurred when David Cutcliffe left on November 28, 2021. Trooper Taylor previously held the position on an interim basis until Mike Elko was appointed on December 13, just two weeks later.
Taylor joined the Duke coaching staff in January 2019 and currently works as the program’s assistant head coach, teaching Blue Devil running backs. Taylor, who has a distinguished 30-year coaching career, was instrumental in Auburn University’s 2010 BCS National Championship victory. His coaching experience includes 16 bowl games for the institution. Following Taylor’s interim appointment, Athletic Director Nina King called a press conference to officially announce the decision. It also revealed the university’s intention to launch a nationwide search for a new head football coach for the team.
