True Lies, CBS’ forthcoming television series, is set to debut on March 1, 2023, at 9 p.m. ET. The much-anticipated sequel to the 1994 picture of the same name stars Steve Howey and Ginger Gonzaga. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the first season of the action drama will have four segments that will be published once a week throughout the month of March.
According to the show’s formal synopsis:
“When an unfulfilled suburban housewife discovers that her bland and unremarkable computer consultant husband is a skilled international spy, she is propelled into a life of danger and adventure when she is recruited to work alongside him to save the world while they try to revitalize their passionless marriage.”
True Lies on CBS is based on the 1994 picture starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis.
After nearly thirty years, James Cameron’s 1994 masterwork, True Lies, has finally been adapted into a television series of the same name. The action espionage drama received a number of favorable reviews back in the day and currently has a 7.3-star rating on IMDb. Here’s an extract from the highlighted review on the 2004 Wikipedia page:
“True Lies is primarily enjoyable and amusing, with excellent action! Finally, a movie of which I can say: “Money well spent!” The action really leaps off the screen, but it never feels excessive or forced, due to action director James Cameron’s experience.”
According to the review, the picture has “everything a decent action thriller requires.” A plausible action hero, some pyrotechnics, pursuits, gun battles, amusement, and a clichéd adversary are all part of this. With the 2023 version, the excitement has gone to the next level. However, the CBS series’ director, Steve Harvey, says that the new iteration is not a carbon duplicate of the original picture.
In an interview with Screen Rant, he stated that they do not intend to follow in the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis. He went on to say that it was a timeless masterpiece. Harvey also stated that they intend to do something else that is unique to them but will undoubtedly be inspired by the moniker. He went on to add that they have a “wonderful ensemble,” with Ginger Gonzaga portraying Curtis and Owen Miller playing Tom Arnold.
CBS True Lies: A brief glimpse into the storyline
The new show follows the lives of Harry (Steve Howey) and Helen, an emotionally detached pair (Ginger Gonzaga). Helen is a language scholar, whereas Harry is a first-rate foreign agent for the US espionage organization Omega. When she learns that her spouse is not as commonplace as he appears, things start to fall apart.
When the huge secret is revealed, Omega invites Helen to join Harry and his crew on clandestine operations all over the world. Their thrilling exploits, however, remain a mystery to their three adolescent children. Once the tasks are completed, their restored connection provides solace in their turbulent marriage. Aside from Howey and Gonzaga, True Lies (2023) stars Omar Miller as the main character, with Erica Hernandez, Annabella Didion, and Mike O’Gorman in minor roles. Anthony Hemingway directed the True Lies series, which was penned by Matt Nix and executive produced by Cameron.
