Trump attacks GOP opponents, Biden at Las Vegas campaign event: ‘The gloves are off’

Former President Donald Trump went on the offensive Saturday night, ripping his Republican opponent and President Biden during a rambling speech at a campaign event in Nevada.

Trump, the leading GOP presidential candidate, told an enthusiastic crowd that “the gloves are off” and that his campaign is “not going to play defensive defense” at the Team Trump Nevada Commitment Event for the Caucuses at Stoney’s Rockin’ Country in Las Vegas.

Biden, 80, took a nasty hit, with the 45th president blasting him as “incompetent” and “corrupt” and mocking his recent public antics, such as appearing lost on stage after a speech and tripping on Air Force One stairs.

“He can’t get off the stage,” said Trump, 77. “He can’t string two sentences together and he’s in charge of nuclear war.”

Trump then impersonated Biden who wandered away from the microphone “after it was all gone,” raising his hands in confusion and asking, “Where am I?” while the audience laughed.

“Honestly we shouldn’t be laughing, we should be crying,” he said. “And thank God for the Secret Service because they caught him and directed him to the exit.”

He called out Biden for tripping several times while getting on and off the presidential plane while traveling, quipping that now “he’s off the child ladder.”

At one point, he polled people to choose his nickname for Biden: Sleepy Joe or Crooked Joe.

He declared “crooked” the winner, as he stopped the word for Hillary Clinton, who he said he now calls “Beautiful Hillary.”

Trump is also pursuing the two candidates who pose the biggest threat to his campaign.

He blasted South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, whom he recently bestowed with the nickname “Bird Brain,” for running against him after previously saying he would not and supporting her bid for the White House.

“Someone said that Birdbrain is now in second place, but he’s not going anywhere,” he said of his former ambassador to the United Nations.

He said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who had emerged as Trump’s strongest opponent despite trailing far in the polls, had “fallen like a falling bird, badly wounded from the sky.”

His campaign was preparing to attack DeSantis as soon as Trump felt he would run, he said. Trump has endorsed DeSantis in the Florida gubernatorial race.

Trump spoke for about an hour during his speech, which he complained was largely improvised because he was unable to read from his prepared speech due to poor lighting.

He also touted his recent endorsement of longshot candidate Larry Elder, who was recently dropped.

“Everyone who went seemed to support me,” he said.

“I don’t know about Mike Pence,” he said of his former vice president, who suspended his own long-term campaign on Saturday.

“He should support me because I had a successful presidency with him as my vice president.”

It was Trump’s second public event in Las Vegas on Saturday, as he previously spoke at a Republican Jewish Coalition rally.
