Former President Donald Trump attacked special counsel Jack Smith shortly after a federal judge threw out prosecutors’ request for a gag order in the government’s 2020 election meddling case against the former commander in chief.
“Biden’s prosecutor, Deranged Jack Smith, has asked the Court to limit the 45th President, and lead the Republican Candidate (by more than 50 points, & beat the Dems!) DONALD J. TRUMP, PUBLIC STATEMENT,” Trump, 77, wrote on Truth Social Friday.
“So I’m campaigning for President against an incompetent who has ARMED the DOJ & FBI to go after his Political Opponents, & I’m not allowed to comment? They Leak, Lie, & Sue, & they won’t let me TALK? How else am I supposed to explain that Jack Smith is AWESOME, or Crooked Joe is INCOMPETENT?” the former president added.
Smith accused Trump of spreading “knowingly false allegations of misconduct” against him and making “baseless allegations” about US District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is presiding over the proceedings, in an effort to influence potential jurors and witnesses in the case.

“Since the grand jury returned the indictment in this case, the defendant has repeatedly and widely disseminated public statements attacking the citizens of the District of Columbia, the Court, prosecutors, and potential witnesses,” Smith wrote. “Through his statements, the defendant threatened to undermine the integrity of these proceedings and undermine the jury pool.”
The 19-page gag order request includes numerous Truth Social posts Trump has made since his four-count indictment in August on charges of conspiracy to defraud the US government and conspiracy to obstruct official proceedings.
Smith cited a post in which Trump referred to Chutkan as “a fraud dressed as a judge in Washington, DC who is a radical Obama hacker” and a “biased, Trump-hating judge.”

The special counsel also referenced a post in which Trump complained that he couldn’t get a fair trial in Washington, DC, because it was “dirty and crime-ridden” and “over 95% anti-Trump.”
“Since the allegations in this case, the defendant has disseminated defamatory and inflammatory public posts on Truth Social on an almost daily basis,” Smith said.
The former president took more shots at Smith during a speech Friday night at the Concerned Women for America Summit in Washington.

Want to take my right to speak freely and openly. ” said Trump. “Don’t ever forget that our enemies want to stop us because we are the only ones who can stop them. They want to take away my freedom because I will not let them take away your freedom.”
“In the real sense I am being prosecuted because of you. Thank you very much everyone,” the former president told the crowd.
