Trump files motion requesting his upcoming 2020 subversion trial be televised

Former President Trump filed a motion to demand proceedings in his upcoming trial on alleged election subversion be broadcast live to the American people.

“The prosecution wants to continue this fraud in the dark. President Trump is asking for sunshine,” Trump attorneys John Lauro and Todd Blanche wrote in a filing Friday to federal judge Tanya S. Chutkan.

“Everyone in America, and beyond, should have the opportunity to study this case firsthand and see, if there is a trial, President Trump exonerate himself from these baseless and politically motivated charges.”

Chutkan, appointed by former President Obama, has taken heat from the president’s allies for alleged liberal bias.

The judge comes from a prominent Jamaican Marxist family.

Trump’s request, if granted, would overturn a previous decade-long ban on broadcasting criminal court proceedings, according to Politico.

Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is bringing the charges against Trump, has opposed the effort, which has also been supported by several media organizations interested in covering the historic trial.

In August, Trump was accused of deliberately spreading lies to invalidate the 2020 presidential election.

A trial has been set for March.
