Trump lashes out at Mazi Pilip, calls for ‘real’ GOP candidate to face Tom Suozzi in November election

Former President Donald Trump lashed out at fellow Republican Mazi Philip — claiming he lost Tuesday’s special election to replace disgraced former Rep. George Santos because he did not support him for president.

Trump blasted Philip at Truth Social and called for a “real candidate” in the November general election to run against Democrat Tom Suozzi, who beat Philip to claim New York’s 3rd Congressional District seat.

Philip, a 47-year-old Nassau County legislator, had 46.1% of the vote behind Suozzi’s 53.8% with 93% of the vote counted Tuesday night.

Suozzi, 61, previously represented most of the Long Island-Queens district for six years.

“Republicans don’t learn, but maybe he’s still a Democrat?” Trump wrote on his social media platform. “I had almost a 99% Endorsement Success Rate in the Primary School, and a very good number in the General Election, too, but just to see this very stupid woman, Mazi Melesa Philip, running in a race where she did not support me and tried to ‘ straddling the fence,’ when he would have won easily if he understood anything about MODERN DAY politics in America.”

The former president claimed that his supporters in the district stayed at home and did not vote because Philip was not part of the MAGA camp and did not support him for the 2024 presidential election or seek his support.

“Give us a real candidate in the district for November,” Trump wrote in all caps. “Suozzi, I know him well, can be beaten easily!”

Suozzi’s victory reduced the Republican majority in the House to 219-213.

The Democrat — who had tried to paint himself as the candidate who would build bridges between party lines — took a shot at Trump in his victory speech Tuesday night.

“Let’s send a message to our friends running Congress today: stop running for Trump and start running the country,” he said. “It’s time to find common ground and start delivering to the American people.”
