Former President Donald Trump plans to challenge the decisions in Colorado and Maine to remove him from the primary ballot as early as Tuesday — and is reportedly worried that some conservative justices on the Supreme Court may rule against him.
Trump’s advisers plan to file legal challenges in response to two separate states that ruled the Republican front-runner for the 2024 presidential election ineligible based on the “rebellion” clause in the 14th Amendment and his actions that led to the Capitol riots on the 6 January, 2021 New York Times reported.
In Maine, the Trump camp is expected to challenge in state court the secretary of state’s decision to bar him from the ballot.
However, Colorado’s decision, made by the state’s highest court, will be appealed to the US Supreme Court, which is expected to face pressure to consider the matter.
Trump has privately told several people that he thinks the Supreme Court — to which he has appointed three conservative justices creating a large Republican majority — will be overwhelmingly in his favor, sources told The Times.

But he also worries that conservative judges will worry about being “perceived as ‘political,'” — and may rule against him, according to the outlet, which cited sources with direct knowledge of his personal comments.
Referring to Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, “Fishermen, Loggers & Lobsters, who overwhelmingly voted for President Trump, are furious with this non-Attorney Sec. of State.”
While California’s secretary of state has said Trump will remain on the ballot in that state, there are legal filings seeking to remove Trump from the ballot in 14 other states with more expected to come, according to Lawfare.
