Trump scores eye-popping 10-point lead over Biden in new poll

Donald Trump has an explosive 10-point lead over President Biden in a recent Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The 77-year-old former president beat Democrats 52% to 42% in a hypothetical rematch of the 2020 contest, up significantly from Trump’s 49% to 43% lead during a similar poll from the outlet in May.

“Heads are EXPLODING at Jeff Bezos Amazon Washington Post, as President Trump now leads Biden nationally by 10 years,” Trump’s senior adviser Jason Miller bragged on X.

During the 2016 election, Trump got about 46% support and in 2020, he only got 47% support.

Overall, the poll spelled bad news for Biden, with voters disparaging his stewardship of the economy, immigration, age and more.

The Biden campaign and administration have boasted about so-called “Bidenomics” progress, but 44% of those polled in the survey think their financial picture has deteriorated under his watch.

Only 30% viewed his handling of the economy favorably, while 37% approved of his overall performance, compared to 56% who disapproved, according to the poll.

On immigration, Biden’s approval reached 23%, with 45% strongly disapproving.

Then, a whopping 74% of voters felt that he was too old for another term, but about 50% said the same about Trump.

At the age of 80, Biden is already the oldest US president and will be 86 by the end of his second term in office.

A majority of Americans, including Democrats, have told polls that he is too old for another term.

Trump, who would also become the oldest president ever in office if he serves a second full non-consecutive term, also leads Biden by one point nationally in the latest RealClearPolitics polling aggregate.

Both men are leading their respective parties’ primary contests to become standard bearers in 2024.

Some of Trump’s Republican rivals have publicly cast doubt on whether he can topple Biden in the 2024 general election, given his defeat last time out.

For example, an ally of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) cited a WPA Intelligence Poll that showed Biden leading Trump 45% to 39%, if he were convicted of any of the 91 criminal charges he faces in four felony cases.

WPA Intelligence CEO Chris Wilson also leads polling and data for the DeSantis-aligned Never Back Down PAC. PAC did not sponsor the survey.

Trump’s approval rating is also less in the water than Biden’s in an ABC-Washington Post poll. Forty-eight percent of respondents approved of Trump’s performance in office, compared to 49% who disapproved, according to the poll.

That’s up from 38% approval in January 2021 and 60% disapproval.

Another nugget from the ABC-Washington Post poll is that 40% indicated they would blame Democrats and Biden for the government shutdown, while 33% would blame Republicans.

This is significant, because historically, polling trends have shown Republicans bearing the brunt of shutdowns in the past.

The ABC-Washington Post poll was conducted from September 15-20 among 1,006 adults with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

It features a partisan breakdown of 25% Democrat, 25% Republican, and 42% Independent.
