Trump super PAC targets DeSantis with $23 million in negative ads compared to $6 million against Biden

Make America Great Again Inc., the super PAC supporting former President Donald Trump, has spent more on ads targeting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ 2024 rival than President Biden — even though Trump leads the GOP field by an average of more than 40 points.

Maga Inc. has spent more than $23 million funding ads against DeSantis and more than $6.7 million against Biden, according to published data by Rob Pyers, director of research for Target Books California.

The huge discrepancy in spending shows the Trump camp is engaged in the primary election and not just focused on defeating Biden, as the former president’s campaign tried to convey in its messaging and skipping every GOP debate.

“The spending will stop when Ron DeSantis gets back to doing what he was elected to do — run the state of Florida,” Karoline Leavitt, spokeswoman for MAGA Inc., told The Post.

Trump has called on the Republican National Committee to cancel all debates to focus on defeating Democrats. He also said he didn’t want to get into a debate with “people who shouldn’t be running for president” while speaking with Tucker Carlson in a counter-program interview during the first GOP debate.

The Florida governor was the top target of negative advertising of all the candidates, garnering more than $25 million in opposing ads from supporters of other White House candidates. Biden is in second place with $20.2 million in attack ads from the 2024 field, according to Pyers data.

Never Back Down, the super PAC that supported DeSantis, spent no money on Biden attack ads, and instead focused on Trump and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, according to the data.

“The negative spend on DeSantis is over $30 million at this point when you include digital and mail as well,” said a person familiar with Never Back Down’s strategy.

MAGA Inc.’s only ad. which is currently airing specifically targeting Biden and juxtaposing Trump’s record with that of the current president.

“President Trump has made us safer, richer and more secure. Under Trump, prices are low and groceries [were] affordable. Trump took on China and won, jobs are coming home, and Trump is securing our borders. But the faltering Biden has made a mess,” the ad said, in part.

MAGA Inc. attack ads. against DeSantis has focused on his Congressional record on Social Security, Medicare, taxes, support for making Puerto Rico a state and his “pudding fingers.”

The 45th president leads the Republican primary field by a long shot, with RealClearPolitics data showing him at an average of 59%, compared to DeSantis’ 14.8%.

Polls show the former commander-in-chief in a tighter race against Biden, with a Fox News poll released Wednesday showing Trump would beat Biden 50% to 46%.
