Donald Trump has for the first time surpassed President Biden in a national general election poll from NBC News.
The former president held a narrow lead over his successor – 46% to 44% – and significantly outperformed the incumbent among young voters, a poll released Sunday found.
“In 2019, 2020, when Trump became president, he trailed [Biden in] everything [NBC’s polls],” NBC national political correspondent Steve Kornacki explained on “Meet the Press.”
“This is the first time in more than a dozen polls we’ve seen results like this.”
Among young voters aged 18 to 34, Trump came out on top 46% to 42% over Biden. For context, young voters picked up Biden by about 26 points in the 2020 election.
Only 31% of young voters approve of Biden’s job performance, down significantly from 46% in September, the poll showed.
Echoing this trend appears to be a response to Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war, an issue that has divided the Democratic Party.

Overall, 40% of registered voters approve of the president’s performance in office, compared to 57% who disapprove — marking the lowest approval rating NBC has recorded for Biden during his time in the White House.
