Tupac’s sister calls murder charge ‘pivotal moment’ after 27 years, warns ‘multiple hands’ involved in slaying

Tupac Shakur’s sister says the arrest of the rapper’s murder suspect after nearly three decades is a “pivotal moment” – but warns “multiple hands” were involved in her brother’s shooting death and much remains unknown.

“Today is a victory,” Sekyiwa Shakur wrote on Instagram Saturday, following the arrest of Duane “Keffe D” Davis by Las Vegas police the day before.

“This is definitely an important moment. The silence of the past 27 years surrounding this case has spoken loudly in our community,” he wrote. “It is important to me that the world, the country, the justice system, and our people acknowledge how heavy the passing of this man is, my brother, my mother’s son, my father’s son.”

However, Sekyiwa said he would hold judgment “until all the facts and legal proceedings are complete.”

“There were many hands involved and still many surrounding the life and death of my brother Tupac and our Shakur family as a whole. We are looking for real justice, in all aspects,” he added.

Davis, 60, said he was one of four passengers in a white Cadillac that pulled up next to the rapper’s car before someone inside rolled down his window and opened fire, hitting Tupac four times on the night of September 7, 1996.

In his 2019 memoir “Compton Street Legends,” Davis identified his nephew, Orlando Anderson, as the man who shot and killed Tupac Shakur.

Anderson, who was a member of the South Side Compton Crips gang, died at the age of 23 in another gangland shooting in 1998.

Anderson denied involvement in Shakur’s murder and was never charged.

The other two men in the car, Terrence Brown and DeAndre Smith are also now dead, leaving no other witnesses to come forward to tell what happened that night.

Authorities said Davis’ public comments reignited the investigation, leading a Nevada grand jury to return an indictment against him on one count of murder with a deadly weapon and gang enhancement — and his arrest Friday.

Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney Marc DiGiacomo described Davis as the “commander on the ground” and “caller of the shots” who “ordered the death” of Shakur.

Shakur’s half-sister, Mopreme Shakur, expressed his anger that the arrest took 27 years, telling The Post on Friday that he did not understand how Davis had gone free — instead capitalizing on the rapper’s death with an interview and book boasting about his years of involvement. year.

“[Davis] has said all this time that he was in the car when his nephew [Orlando Anderson] shoot my brother This does not have to be the case.”

There has been much speculation that Shakur’s murder was gang-related.

The rapper was linked to the Bloods street gang and earlier on the night of his death, he had fought with Anderson following a boxing match between Mike Tyson and Bruce Seldon.

Following the drive-by shooting, Tupac was rushed to Southern Nevada University Medical Center.

He died six days later on September 13 of a heart attack.
