Three years ago this month, the global Coronavirus outbreak was declared a pandemic. The World Health Organization made the announcement on March 11, and US cities began implementing lockdowns on the 15th. (via CDC)
In a time before information about COVID-19 was available or had even been discovered in the first place, it made sense to question the virus or express disbelief in the rapidly changing cultural climate.
“High School Music” alumna and Coachella festival aficionado, documented her thoughts on Instagram Live as Coachella was rejected; Hudgens pointed out that the festival was allegedly delayed until July 2020. According to Vox, the festival was pushed back to October after being originally scheduled for April. It was eventually canceled and was also not held the following year.
Hudgens’ misguided clip would later go viral, and she would later apologize for her actions.
Three years later the clip is being circulated again on Twitter, and users are looking back at one of the most unintentional pop culture moments of the year.

In Hudgens’ original Instagram Live session, she shared her thoughts on the impact of the virus on the festive season.
“Ummmmm… yeah, until July sounds like a bunch of bu*****t. I am sorry. But, like, it’s a virus, I get it, like, I respect it, but at the same time like, even though everybody gets it, like, yeah, people are going to die, which is horrible, but like… inevitable?” he stared, rolling his eyes.
Needless to say, Hudgens’ criticism was met with criticism.
The “Say OK” singer later issued an apology for her remarks in an iPhone notes app, and later shared a screenshot via her Twitter account.
“Hey guys,” his apology began. “I’m sorry for the way I offended anyone and everyone who saw the clip from my Instagram live yesterday. I realize that my words are insensitive and completely inappropriate to the current state of our country and the world. This has been a huge wake-up call about the importance of my words, now more than ever,” Hudgens continued. “I’m sending my best wishes for everyone to stay safe and healthy during this crazy time,” his statement said. Hudgens would issue a further apology in a since-deleted Instagram video. He will also post information and resources to his feed.

Three years (and many vaccination developments later), Hudgens’ clip continues to generate conversation on social media.
The pop culture Twitter account NOSTALGIA tweeted the clip on Wednesday, and fans will be discussing the famous clip on its network.

“all this because he wants to go to coachella,” wrote another, adding a Bravo gif.
“We all know what he’s trying to say and you’re all LIBERATING him [skelton emoji],” said one user.
“What’s even crazier is that it’s really about coachella,” another fan tweeted.

“This comment section is full of people who clearly haven’t lost a loved one to this disease,” wrote one user. “We get it, you’re insensitive, and out of touch with community care. Your privilege has all been pointed out. Some people are chronically ill and disabled. At least try and step outside of yourself,” they concluded.
“I really can’t believe this is true this really came off as an snl skit,” another fan tweeted.
“Omg I’ve erased this from my memory. it was wild [laughing emoji],” another user wrote.
“She can keep this in a journal,” another fan contributed.
“Now this is why troy chose him over sharpay [crying emoji] he eats,” the “High School Musical” fan tweeted.
Recently, the now-engaged Hudgens made headlines for commenting on her ex, Austin Butler’s, dedication to maintaining his ‘Elvis’ accent. Butler portrayed Elvis Presley in a biopic of the rock and roll pioneer late last year.
