Five men, including Aaron Schwartzman and Brayden Bowers, who were contestants on Charity Lawson’s season of “The Bachelorette,” were involved in a boating accident during their fishing trip and were “lucky to be alive,” according to FOX.

The boat ended up underwater and sank 15 to 20 miles off the coast of San Diego. Fortunately, two people found the survivors and were able to bring them back to shore.

“It’s like being stuck and helpless because there’s no service, we can’t send any distress signals at all, and the only thing you have out there is hope, hope someone finds you, hope the helicopter flies,” Aaron Schwartzman, who owns the boat that, told FOX 5 Monday.

Schwartzman said he and his friends were hanging out at sea for a fun day, hoping to catch a fish, but things changed after they found themselves stranded in the water for three and a half hours and about 15 miles from shore.

“I finally bought my dream boat, or so I thought, for it to sink on me,” Schwartzman said.

“My friend Gavin got his line caught on the propeller of the engine, so Aaron just went behind the boat to lift the engine and try to get it apart … all of a sudden, as soon as he stood on the swim deck … the boat just went under,” Brayden Bowers, who was also on bot, told FOX 5. She and her friend Brayden Bowers met while filming the latest season of “The Bachelorette.”

Schwartzman Is A Firefighter And Rescuer

Luckily, Schwartzman is a firefighter and rescue worker, as well as several others involved in the group, so they know how to handle a situation like this — even if they’re still lucky to be alive.

“It never occurs to you as a rescuer that you might need to be rescued, but when you do, it’s good to know that people will step up your ways,” Schwartzman said. “You think about the next step …. but … what’s the next step when you’re 15 miles out in the ocean, in the wind?” he added.

Bowers added, “We were just trying to row to shore, so we linked arms, and we just started kicking.”

Fortunately, the group of friends were spotted by two other people, Chris Keeran and his cousin TJ, who noticed something reflecting in the water while out fishing.

“For whatever reason, we came to see if it was holding fish, and that’s when we saw the guy in the water,” TJ said.

“We were looking for yellowfin tuna and then found a group of guys,” added Keeran.

“We don’t consider ourselves heroes; we do whatever any other fisherman would do,” said Keeran. “I am very grateful for God’s gift, we see something that reflects. Just things to add to get it. I mean, once we found them, that was our best catch of the day.”

Aaron Schwartzman and Brayden Bowers will appear in the upcoming season of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
