“Two Sides of the Abyss” Is Set To Premiere On HBO Max

Two Sides of the Abyss will premiere on HBO Max on May 8, 2023, with all six episodes showing simultaneously. The thriller, created and written by Kristin Derfler, follows Wuppertal police officer Luise Berg as she meets her daughter’s accused murderer, Dennis Opitz, who was released from prison early after serving a seven-year sentence. As more murders occur, Luise suspects Dennis, but the others are skeptical. As the story progresses, the lines between guilt and innocence, offender and victim, law, and justice become more blurred. Anno Saul (Charité) directed the series, while Derfler served as creative producer.

For the first time, WarnerMedia and RTL Deutschland are teaming up to co-produce a new six-part crime series. RTL Deutschland has acquired the first-run rights to the series in Germany, where it will be accessible on the newly rebranded RTL Plus streaming platform. After that, it will be available on free television.

Meanwhile, Warner TV Series will broadcast the series on pay television in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s streaming platform, will release the series as a Max Original in 61 territories across the United States, Latin America and Europe, with WarnerMedia International Television Distribution handling international distribution outside these territories.
