Two women found dead days apart on same road as son fears same suspect to blame for both: ‘Weird and evil’

Two women have been found murdered “in the same manner” along the same Indianapolis street just five days apart – with a grieving son fearing “someone strange and evil” may be on the prowl.

The body of Marianne Weis, 52, was found behind the mall on Thursday, about 450 feet from where Shannon Lassere, 58, was found stabbed to death in a dental office parking lot on Jan. 27, local newspaper Fox 59 reported. .

Indianapolis police haven’t said how Weis died — but Capt. Roger Spurgeon said both women “were killed the same way.”

The women – both white and in their 50s – had signs of trauma on their bodies, officials said, without elaborating.

Interim police chief Christopher Bailey said that while detectives have not officially linked the murders, there are “similarities in both of these cases.”

“We are here because we are very careful to share information with the community,” he said, hoping “for information that will help move this investigation forward.”

Lassere’s son, Justin Smith, believes the same killer is to blame for both.

“I feel like there’s someone out there doing something. It’s not a coincidence … Something’s wrong,” he told Fox 59.

“There’s someone strange and evil walking around here doing something.”

Lassere, who is deaf, moved with his family from Seattle to Indianapolis three years ago. He left his home on the night of January 26 to walk to a nearby gas station and never returned, he said, with his mother’s body found across the street from his home.

“I had a bad feeling in the morning,” his son said of “the greatest woman ever.”

“It was very callous the way they took it. He doesn’t deserve it. He won’t push it.”

Lassere’s daughter, Cecilia, also suggested it was too coincidental for the two murders not to be linked.

“For my mother to be found and then for other people to be found in the same area later, something is bound to happen, and I hope they get justice,” he told WTHR.

“Why would someone hurt him?” the grieving daughter asks about her “best friend.”

“He was very welcoming. Any friend I ever had in my life, he welcomed them in. He is the best person ever. Like, she made me the mom I am today.

Police are stepping up patrols in the area where the two back-to-back murders took place and are asking neighbors to check their security cameras for anything suspicious.

Residents are urged to be aware of their surroundings and not to walk alone at night.
