Tyler Perry was so concerned about the FDA Lab moving into a black neighborhood that he was willing to buy the building.
Tyler Perry Wants to Buy a New Building

The writer is considering buying the Forces Command building, a former US military training complex across the street from Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. The building was set to be an FDA lab, but Tyler wasn’t feeling it.
In particular, he was worried about the fumes that could potentially be inhaled by many of the cast and crew working on location and the surrounding community would also potentially be affected if the lab came into town and started messing things up.
In August 2019, the building, known as the McPherson Local Redevelopment Authority (MIRLA) approved the sale of the FORSCOM building for a staggering $17 million to Easterly Government Properties.
Tyler Perry Missed His Kick

Initially, Perry missed out on buying the building after it was sold to Easterly Government Properties and the plan was to have it up and running by 2021 but no progress has been made.
follow Support Report, this is due to a combination of pandemic-related restrictions and the FDA’s decision to scale back future plans for the building. Mark Bauer, executive vice president of Easterly Government Properties, of the FDA, claims, “they don’t have enough funding.”
He went on to say, “We put the project on hold while the government decides how much additional funding is needed.” This gives Perry room to storm in and take the building, he can do a lot with it.
In a phone call interview with Perry, the producer said, “The FDA is going to have a chimney that emits white smoke. It’s very problematic to me.”

Now that the building is up for grabs Perry is looking to put more than the $17 million he paid for it in the first place. “I would gladly buy that building at a premium to not have a chimney on the property,” Perry said.
“The best outcome, if they don’t sell the building to me, is to not have a chimney with an environmental impact in an all-Black neighborhood. To allow someone to put a lab in the middle of this development with a chimney is not good for me. They wouldn’t do it in Buckhead, so why would they do it here? It feels like environmental racism.”
The bold statement caught the attention of Bauer who claimed that was not the case at all.

“A chimney is not a fair or accurate description of it at all,” Bauer said. “They are Strobic fans. It is typical for all laboratories, hospitals and medical facilities. It is a type of exhaust system that takes unwanted vapors and fumes produced in laboratory applications and cleans them before putting them in the atmosphere, so that they are clean. The mechanic is on the roof. The steam coming out is not visible. It’s not like poisonous smoke.”
I don’t know Bauer, sounds pretty toxic to us. Specifically, the part where you say, “kind of exhaust system who took unwanted vapors and fumes produced in laboratory applications”
However, Bauer went on to insist that it wasn’t how Perry made it look at all. In any case, the very successful filmmaker is waiting with the funds to buy the building out from under you if the opportunity arises.
