Tyrese Gibson Sued For $10 Million Over ‘Breakfast Club’ Interview

Tyrese Gibson is being sued for millions by a director over negative comments he made about her on ‘The Breakfast Club.’

The “Fast & Furious” star is being sued by Bryan Barber for defamation, and defamation, and he wants $10 million in damages.

Tyrese Gibson Accused Of Making Defamatory Statements About Video Director

According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, Barber claims the actor made inaccurate and defamatory statements about him during a Sept. 7 appearance on “The Breakfast Club.”

Barker claimed that the “Baby Boy” actor attacked his “character and reputation” during the episode stating, “Barber took Gibson’s [interview] recording and refusing to give it back; Gibson paid [Barber] A sum of $35,000.00 to tape the interview; and Barber also stole recordings from two other public figures – Big Boi and Dallas Austin.”

The filmmaker recalled he was hired by Gibson in 2019, to conduct and edit a sit-down interview with Charlamagne Tha God. Gibson’s ex-wife, Samantha Lee, will sit with the actor during filming.

Barber, CEO and founder of Pivot Originals — a video streaming platform — said his company will create personal cameras, lighting and post-shoot editing for Gibson.

Gibson and Barker agreed that the interview would be taped over the course of a day and that both parties “will split (50/50) the revenue earned from streaming and/or other distribution.” However, that didn’t happen as Gibson requested a second day of filming under the guise of wanting “B-Roll’ footage of Gibson spending time with his wife and their newborn daughter.”

As for Gibson’s claims about Barber refusing to release footage of the interview, the music video director claims the actor’s management specifically instructed him not to release any part of the interview to protect the “Fast 9” star’s reputation.

“Gibson refused to abide by the previous 50/50 revenue split that he and Barber negotiated prior to the CTG Interview,” the document reads.

Tyrese went on to address the situation during an appearance on ‘The Breakfast Club’ claiming Barker was holding the recording hostage. In the interview, Gibson claimed he spent $35,000 on it, and Barker wouldn’t let it go.

Now, Barker is suing the statement for defamation, and Gibson knows that “the success of Pivot Originals is largely dependent on establishing and maintaining trust with original content creators.” Nevertheless, he made the statement, knowing that it was not true.

Barber is seeking damages in the sum of not less than $10,000,000, claiming the statement was defamatory solely to injure his profession as a director (and editor/producer) and his business.

Keep in mind, that conversation on ‘The Breakfast Club’ started with Charlamagne Tha God suggesting the interview was a “waste of his time.” The radio host explained that the situation had caused strain in his relationship with Tyrese.

Gibson has yet to respond to the allegations made in the lawsuit. The conversation can be heard in the YouTube video…Below. (Starts at about the 42 min. mark)
