Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can’t seem to catch a break.
The two recently suffered a severe financial blow when music streaming platform Spotify decided to end their deal, which was reportedly worth $20 million.
Now, the former royals have received another blow, which comes in the form of the name of their podcast, “Archetypes,” being rejected by the US Patent and Trademark Office after the couple applied to patent it.

Why Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s ‘Archetypes’ Trademark Was Rejected
MEGA
According to Daily MailThe US Patent and Trademark Office has rejected the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s application to trademark the name “Archetype” for their podcast series.
The podcast, which focuses on women’s issues, was launched by the couple in 2021 after they stepped down from their senior royal duties and moved to the United States. It’s also part of their content creation deal with Spotify, which was recently terminated for undisclosed reasons.
According to reports, the rejection of the application was based on “possible confusion” with an existing trademark owned by Archetypes LLC, an Arizona-based company. Archetypes LLC holds the trademark for its collection of books and articles related to topics such as “nutrition, fitness, sexuality and psychological self-improvement.”
In response to the rejection, Sussex’s lawyer, Marjorie Witter Norman, has asked for an additional three months to refine their application for the trademark.
Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Spotify Deal Has Ended
MEGA
Just a week ago, Harry and Meghan suffered a severe financial blow when their podcast deal with Spotify ended.
“Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we created together,” read a statement released by the parties to Entertainment Tonight.
The deal, signed in 2020 with the pair’s Archewell Audio partnership, only spawned 13 hours of content, including 12 episodes of “Archetypes” and a one-off holiday special.
Guests such as Mariah Carey, Serena Williams and Mindy Kaling were among the many celebrities who appeared on the platform during its short existence.
The loss of the deal implies that the couple will not receive nearly the entire amount agreed upon when they sign the deal in 2020.
Source Claims ‘Archetypes’ Don’t Live Up To The Hype
MEGA
Since the deal ended, several sources have made claims as to why the streaming company decided to part ways with the Sussexes, each Page Six.
One speculated that it was because the podcast didn’t live up to its potential despite debuting amid a crowd.
“Even though ‘Archetypes’ did well and won a few awards, when you do a deal like this, to have only one series all the time is not good,” said the source, who noted that the “Obamas,” who have a deal with Spotify, show better performance.
Another source said that Spotify decided to “focus on people who drive strong audiences, like Alex Cooper, Dax Shepard and Emma Chamberlain.”
The source added, “There are a lot of great creators who are very passionate. Meghan and Harry are the outliers in all of this; I think they are considered lazy and difficult.”
Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Bills Are Piling Up
MEGA
With the pair no longer having a Spotify deal, many have speculated that they may find it difficult to cover their huge bills.
The couple currently owes a hefty mortgage on a large Tuscan-style property that they paid $14.7 million for in June 2020, among those who like to spend money.
Harry and Meghan must also pay annual property taxes of nearly $200,000, along with catering for staff salaries and maintaining the residence.
An estimated $2 million is spent annually on the couple’s personal security detail. The couple have also had to pay huge amounts of legal fees as a result of Harry’s ongoing legal dispute with the British press.
Despite their financial woes, sources claim that the couple are not “broke, but they have to keep spending their money instead of saving it.”
